My name is Betsy, my friends call me simply "B". I am a happily married woman living just outside of Pittsburgh with my perfect and Uber-Talented husband Stephen (check him out - Dr Jones on my top friends) and my cat Monkey.
During the day, I work in an office handling Purchasing and Accounting. At night I am an artist. I sometimes feel I am two people living in the same body. I have my office personality, but when I step out of the doors, I become the creative, funky, artsy person whom I've always been.
My parents have a running joke that I was born with a pencil in my hand! I am an aspiring professional artist. Still "aspiring" because I am just now starting to make a really good name for myself here in Pittsburgh. I have had a few Art Exhibits in the past couple years, and I have a bunch more getting lined up. I will be hosting my first group exhibit here soon... working on getting a venue, then we're all ready!
I favor Acrylic painting, Pencil, Colored pencil, marker, and photography as my medium, though I will be experimenting again with oil painting and inks here shortly.
I have gone through many phases and 'Series' in my time. Most recently, I have been developing a series of abstract drawings, done in colored pencil, of environmental scenes out of nothing but circles and straight lines. Interesting, colorful, and eye-crossing, they have become some of my favorites, and very well received in public.
I also have been working on Asian inspired drawings and paintings.... everything from Mandarin and Japanese characters (I'm teaching myself calligraphy techniques) to drawings of Geisha or Chinese peasant-type women, to Stephen and my tattoos- I have one of the Four Ancient Chinese Beauties (Google them - very interesting stories empowering women) on my back and Stephen has a Japanese Battle Flag and a Samurai, and I drew them all up - and they look beautiful! More importantly, it is SO flattering that my husband loves my art enough to wear it forever! If you want to know more about my Asian drawings, let me know. I'll have pictures up soon!
I have most recently been working on developing a whole new painting style for myself. I have been inspired, and can SEE exactly what I want the finished product to look like, but I'm not quite there yet. It will take time to get things looking perfect, but it's great fun working to get to that point. Very inspirational and soothing, this new style I'm working on is greatly meditative for me right now - it's organic and free flowing, as opposed to the fairly technical pieces I've always done in the past.
I love different cultures and the art from the different eras and locations around the world. I was always interested in (and studied quite a bit) the ancient Greeks and Romans. The art from this period really gave me insight into what beauty can really be. Curvy women, gorgeous lighting, outrageous gardens and eye catching color. So amazing! That was the beginning of my interest in cultures and humanities. I have a fair interest in the Ancient Egyptians. Of course, being Irish, I love the Irish and Scottish cultures - minus the Religion and stereotypes of booze and potatoes (even though I LOVE potatoes!) haha The most influential culture I have ever been exposed to was the Asian cultures. I love love LOVE Japanese and Chinese art! It's all so fluid and organic and beautiful! And the cultures as a whole... the respect and peace and education. The legends and stories and language and music.... all of it! It's so touching and real.... I crave to learn more!
OK, well I guess that's more or less it. For now, anyway! If you want to know more, send me a message.
Take care, my friends! Be happy, healthy, and safe! B

My mom.... she's the strongest, most beautiful, witty, intelligent woman I know! I love her almost as much as she loves me.... she's done everything for me and my brothers and my dad, and has done everything to keep our family together. I may not show it, but I LOVE the fact that I am exactly like her- it's funny how that has happened over the past few years.... but we look alike, talk alike, sound alike, act alike, think alike!Stephen.... he's been a big influence in my life, and shown me what TRUE LOVE can really be. I have never felt emotion like this about anyone before.... not even in my dreams did I know real people could fall in love like this!I don't know who else I could consider my hero.... I haven't done or become this or that beacause some famous person did something. My heroes are that because they have been detrimental to my life, and close to my heart... and I wouldn't be where I am today- shit, I wouldn't be ALIVE- without my Mom and Stephen. I can't possibly thank either enough.
