Music: Member Since: 2/5/2007 Band Website: djmanaia.blogspot.com Band Members:DJ MANAIA -Dj Manaia is a dj and promotor from Lisbon since 1999, but he started mixing earlyear with the age of 14 at home with his uncle's turntables. A few years later he played in several bares and clubs from the legendary Bairro Alto in Lisbon, but it was in the area of Santos in Lisbon, in the club Fluid where he started to show his skills, known for being an irreverent dj but at the some time worried in representing new eltronic sounds to his audience. Later he started the dj agency Matahari, it was a small experience but with great results, that time it was the agency of Rui Murka, Kaspar, Mr.Cheeks, Antony Millard among other dj’s from Bairro Alto. In 2005 he started his most evident project with his mate José Canas, starting for being responsible for the line up of Clube Mercado, a club in Lisbon that received great national and international projects! In Clube Mercado he was the resident dj and promotor of several events that was a mark in Lisbon’s night life: Dj Premier, Dj A-Trak, Nicola Conte, Bonde Do Role, Buraka Som Sistema, Boozoo Bajou, Kid Loco, Idjut Boys, Jahcoozi, Putsch’79, among many others. After Clube Mercado was closed because of noise problems, he opened Mini-Mercado in Santos, where it was the former club Fluid. He usually plays at Saturdays in Mini-Mercado being this his principal residency. In all this years he played all over Portugal... Lisboa (Fluid, Frágil, Estado Liquido, Clube da Esquina, Purex, Lounge, Left), Porto (Plano B, Trintaeum, Bazaar, Industria), Bragança, Braga, Chaves, Aveiro, Viseu, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Figueira da Foz, Caldas da Rainha, Rio Maior, Leiria, Evora, Sto.Andre, Zambujeira do Mar, Albufeira, Madeira and Açores. He already played as well in UK, Bristol at Native with Tayo, Oxford at The Cellar with Hannah Holland and in London at Cargo with Deekline and Beni G. His style is difficult to describe because he plays everything that bounces at the dancefloor... it can be hip-hop, brokenbeat, house, electro or rock... anyway, free style where the sounds of ghettos from all over the world are evident, the Baile Funk from Rio de Janeiro, the Bmore Club of Baltimore, the Kuduro of Luanda and Lisboa, the Breaks and Dubstep of London, etc.! A-Trak, Dj Ayres, Diplo, Tittsworth, Switch, Sinden or Beni G are his great referencies. The major objective is always to PUT THE DANCFLOOR BOUNCING ALL NIGHT LONG! He’s fan of national artists and it’s usual to promote it in his shows. He’s currently playing with Serato Live Scratch, sometimes with 3 turntables and 1 cd player for loops making his show very peculiar… Some of his mixes are here on My Space.
