Irvine, I started there in ‘93/ That’s where I became an artist though it was always inside of me/ I’m a breathing dichotomy/ Part of me’s computer geek/ The other part of me sees the world musically/ In complete harmony/ If we treat each other honorably/ though not to exonerate me, entirely/ ironically/ I’ve played my share of bad notes, we’re all works in progress/ I believe/Please pardon me/ Allow me a moment to backtrack/ Before UCI where I honed my craft at/ Back to Inglewood, Cali., my formative habitat/ Home of the Great Western Forum/ I vow to bring magic back/ But way before I was a rapper/ Before the Lakers built a dynasty/ My pops called me tough timer and propped me up on the seat/ with congas in front of me/ I guess I used to wail away/ who could’ve known that lil’ man would be still playing to this day/ A man of great talents/ tryin’ to maintain his balance/ with a future hard to read with those hands made of callous/ yet the challenge is the best part/ I learned faith, resilience/ And one day in the future, I know Ill make gazillions/ Then I can save the children/ with inner city programs/ Teach ‘em art and science/ Small Axe is the slogan/ You can catch the vibe in the Bob Marley soul jam/ wanted to be just like him/ even let my hair go man!/ Started writing my own jams in school with Blackwhole/ Got a chance to tour Japan/ Did a lil’ dance around the globe/ With 2000 records sold/ we stayed way below radar/ 2 songs made it top ten in Tokyo/ but that’s way far/ Joint One Radio Show/ thanks for the love y’all gave us/ Blackwhole was on the verge, getting to be famous/ but what they say is, they say everything’s timing/ though it’s no time to quit/ time to turn up ya spit/ time to perfect the rhyming/ time to learn to write hits/ Holden formed like a diamond from “tha Whole” like black coal/ On a mission to save the globe/ from music that lacks soul/ I inject all that I know/ Give my all at a show/ The mic sorcerer/ my sources are all credible/ Mr. Incredible/ From a tiny spark to flame/ And my mark is indelible/ Carve my name in the game…
