| JESSE LA FLAIRARTIST STATEMENTIt is a gift as an artist to have the ability to explore and bring attention to the fine details in life that are often overlooked. Sometimes the closer you are to something, the harder it is to see. In my work I choose to investigate universal experiences of life and self by creating representational metaphors that explore emotion, life, death and natural human development in abstract ways. For this body of work I have chosen to explore these ideas through the use of video. I simultaneously utilize the inherent characteristics of film and video as well as the instinctive characteristics of the human body and common emotions. In addition to using physical objects, I often work with common phenomena’s such as the persistence of vision and deterministic chaos or chaos theory. My work is meant to spark emotion and commence a silent conversation between the viewer and the piece. Emotions are universal, the world influences, the mind reacts, and the eyes project. As we progress forward from adolescence to adulthood, we are forced to form our often-different personalities into the shape of one. Each person in the world has the ability to perceive and experience life in a his/her own way. However, we will all be presented with opportunities and disappointments, achievements and regrets, the honor of life and the unavoidable fate of death.
