KVARTS stands in the crossfire between the traditional and the experimental, playing a wide variety of instruments and expressing joy in music making. The group’s CD’s have received high critical praise in newspapers, music magazines and radio/TV. They have composed a lot of music for different occasions- for concerts and theatre, and combine this new written music with old Norwegian folk music. This combination of old and new music gives them a sound of their own.The members’ musical backgrounds range from classical to contemporary, via bluegrass and blues to folkmusic. This allows them to experiment and improvise without weakening their bonds to traditional folk music. Their first recording, called KVARTS, was released in spring, 1999. It received good reviews and was awarded a Norwegian "Grammy", Spellemannprisen. Their most resent Cd, Steinsprang (2006), was also awarded a Spellmannpris. KVARTS is on the concert and workshop scene.
