This intensive course will run from 10.00am until 4.15pm each day, and will include classes in ensemble playing, ear training and theory. Course Director, Paul Towndrow will lead a team comprising some of Scotland’s most experienced professional jazz musicians and educators. The course is open to all instrumentalists and previous experience of jazz is not essential. You should be around Grade 5 or above on your chosen instrument and you will be placed in classes that will best reflect your abilities. Participants will be able to attend Jazz Festival performances free of charge at the Old Fruitmarket during the Summer School weekend. (subject to availability) Comments from 2006 “Really enjoyed it and have a lot to go away and work on. A great course and hope it continues.” – Steven Smith, alto saxophone “Everyone enjoyed it and learnt a lot from it.” Sukey Ho, piano “What an absolutely marvellous experience the course was. As an older chap I was a wee bit apprehensive as to how I would get on. I shouldn’t have worried.” Iain Graham, tenor saxophone “Most of the work was combined with using the instruments which made the class more hands on. Hopefully I can come back next year.” James McDonald, bass |
