| Nathan Stevens a.k.a. DJ-NECE$$ARY born of southern Italian descent started dj’ing in 1991 in the Toronto club circuit. After 10 long years of lugging crates of records from venue to venue he decided to take a change of pace. Unhappy with the music he was playing he decided rather than wait for good, playable tracks to come along, he would create his own. The transition from mobile dj’ing to production was effortless. He began re-mixing anything he could think of; building a remix catalogue that would serve as an arsenal for his set.Later that year he began to work out of Icecap records, a local studio that focused on urban music using the growing “Desi” sound that was just catching on. Given the opportunity to work along side talents such as 6-PAC and FREEDOM, Nathan felt inspired to write his own material. With the assistance of reputable producer EARL FERNS, the prototype was completed. In early 2002 the self titled debut album was released opening a whole new set of doors for the talented young artist. Remaining independent, (no label support), “Necessary” pressed and sold 5000 copies of the freshman album in just 3 months.Selling cd’s out of his trunk and with the help of the local Toronto record stores, Necessary created a cult fan base that would carry him to a next level. Performing along side such Canadian talents as IN- ESCENCE, CHOCLAIR, JULLY BLACK and SOKRATES, it was time to take his show on the road. Traveling everywhere from Italy to Mexico, Nathan was able to reach a broad audience while embracing other cultures musically.What do you do after all that hustle? After show after show, track after track. What else? Open up a studio. CLOCKWORKS recording studios was a dream project made into reality. The state of the art facility was designed by world renowned studio architects PILCHNER & SCHOUSTAL. The 3000 square foot space boasts to have Toronto’s best vocal booth, live room (for full band), 2 midi suites, graphics department and top-of-the line engineering room. Within its first two years, Clockworks recorded over 150 artists ranging from hip-hop to opera singers. The unique and comfortable environment was appealing to everyone who visited. Artists, singers, producers and engineers came from all over the world to indulge in the “Clockworks” experience.After five long years of development and sacrifice, Nathan Stevens became restless and unsatisfied with being stationary and decided to close down the faculty.
