WHAT IS BLAZIN' BANDS? This page contains alot of information to help bands and musicians succeed in this industry, mostly via my blogs. The people who are already friends here do alot of networking and helping each other out. WHO DO I ACCEPT? I accept bands and musicians of any genre provided you are located within 100 miles of Dayton, Oh. If you are from farther away I can't add you. This page is run by one woman and unfortunately I just don't have time to help people from farther away than that. At this time I am not accepting requests from anyone who is NOT a band or a musician unless they are referred to me by someone I know well. This goes for any type of 'agency' - booking, promotion, production companies etc. There are too many unscrupulous people in this business and I need to protect the integrity of this page. This is the best way I know how to do that. Make sure you send me an add request from your personal page as well as your band page. If you don't, you'll miss out on the booking opportunities I send out as well as other information and special deals I negotiate for my bands. Just because you can read bulletins on your band page now doesn't mean you'll be able to do so in a few months. Everyone, PLEASE CLICK HERE BEFORE YOU SEND ME AN ADD REQUEST. WHAT DOES THIS PAGE HAVE TO OFFER YOU? This page was created to offer advice and to coach bands on how to promote themselves better, improve their networking skills, book more shows and SO MUCH MORE. In addition to my blogs I provide numerous other services to local musicians, venues and other industry professionals including: --- I send bulletins promoting bands and other music industry related businesses and websites. These are important for building your industry contacts. If you want to be included make sure you email me your band info. Effective 6/1/08 I will not post bulletins promoting any band who has not emailed me their info. I figure if you can't be bothered to do that, I shouldn't be bothered either. For the list of info and where to send it, CLICK HERE --- If you are looking for more gigs, other bands for a gig you are putting together or bands to play your venue, let me know. I will need a myspace url other people can contact you at as well as the gig details. --- I send bulletins advertising local shows. To get your shows added, just send me your show banner OR all the details (genre/date/venue/address/etc) and I'll help spread the word! --- I have blogs devoted to local venues, photographers, merch makers, graphic artists, studios and other industry people. If you are looking to hire one, take a look and see which of these types of people have added their info. --- There are plenty more things I offer, but this is an "About Me" - not a novel. Music:Recently I tried to send an add request to a band from another myspace I run. Unfortunately I couldn't because a hacker had messed with their page's settings so noone could add them without knowing their last name or email address. With this in mind, I recommend everyone do the following: On your computer, open a new notepad file. Copy and paste these instructions into the file. Save the file on your desktop, so you can find it. Now login to your band page and do the following: - Click "account settings" - Under each of the following headings do the following: 1. "Account" - Make sure all the info is correct. 2. "Privacy" - Make sure the box is ticked off so that users under 18 can contact you. (unless you don't want them to) 3. "Spam" - Tick the following boxes: Allow non-friends to send me messages - Bookers, Bands and other industry people will need to contact you at the same time they send an add request. Don't discourage them, these are vital connections you could be losing out on! Allow bands to send friend requests - DUH! How are you going to get anywhere in this business if you don't make friends with other bands? UNtick the following box: Require last name or email address - people shouldn't have to do this on your band page. Everything else under "spam" is optional. 4. "Applications" - There is a handy little box at the bottom of this section that says "Allow applications to send me messages and comments." By all means, tick this box unless you want the world to comment you cuz they bought you for a pet or some other nonsense. I wouldn't block apps entirely, but i'd block the comments and messages. Just my opinion. Let your friends do this on your personal page. 5. "Calendar" - Make sure that your calendar is set to "Share Calendar With EVERYONE!" 6. "Miscellaneous" - To cut down on spam, and quicken the loading time of your page, disable the html in your comments, at least on your profile. I'm not sure the pros and cons of allowing images and vids to stretch the width of your comment box. I leave that option unticked. And delete oversized pic/banner comments on your profile, it distorts the look of your page. If you disable profile and band players from automatically starting, your computer will have less work to do as you cruise myspace. This is especially important if you are running an old computer with an archaic operating system. |
