| DARYL RAY SPENCE ANNOUNCES FOR CITY MARSHAL Daryl Ray Spence, a life long residence of Ennis, a 1986 graduate of Ennis High School and a Deputy for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department has filed as a candidate for Ennis City Marshal. Daryl is the son of James and Judy Cryer and Delma Ray and Merle Spence. Daryl is married to the former Michele Monk. His children are Raeanne 22, Justin 18, Edward 10, and two stepchildren Aaron 21 and Austin 15, and a grandson Ayden Daryl Jones. Daryl is an active member of the Baylor Baptist Church. Spence states that he wants the marshal position to make Ennis an even better place to live. “I can bring a fresh perspective and fresh ideas based on my experience with the Ellis county and Dallas County Sheriffs Department. I believe a Crime Stopper program should be started and continue to participate in the National Night Out and other community awareness programs. I would like to see the street crimes unit and K-9 program return to start the process of removing the DRUGS and GANGS off the street. We need more officers on the streets and NOT on the highways working traffic. A DARE program should be implemented. We can make, working together, Ennis much better”.Spence worked as a voluntary fire fighter with the Ennis Fire Department while he attended Navarro College. Working at various jobs prior to going to work for the Dallas County Sheriffs department as a Detention Officer and being promoted to a Supervisor over inmates performing various duties after one year of employment. Working nights at the Dallas county Jail, Spence attended Eastfield College Police Academy where he received his Basic Police Officer certificate. He was appointed a reserve police officer with the Ennis Police Department in 1999. Spence then became a Detention Officer for the Ellis County Sheriffs Department. Spence also served in the Navel Reserve with the Navy Mobile Construction Battalion, being honorably discharged. Spence has more than 1906 hours of law enforcement training, as a field-training officer and has kept current with all training hours required.Spence believes all of his experiences and knowledge in all phases of law enforcement will serve him well as city marshal. Spence is capable of overseeing, planning, managing and budgeting the Ennis Police Department. Spence also has leadership and public relations skills with high level of personal and professional integrity, along with an open door policy to every citizen of Ennis. Spence is committed to accountability along with responsibility. Working closely with the citizens and the city government will ensure the highest quality security of Ennis.
