Il gruppo nasce alla fine dell'anno 2002 dalle ceneri dei TEARS OF EVIL con l’innesto di Giacomo Bortone alla voce e Marco Bruni al basso. Grazie al grande feeling che si instaura tra i membri, nascono velocemente i primi brani; nei testi vengono trattati temi filosofico-metafisici introspettivi, incentrati sul tema mente-volontà-azione. Tonalità opache emergono e persistono in tutti i testi, come una depressione sfumata, lieve ma costante. E' proprio questa condizione di cupa tristezza (DYSTHYMIA) che dà il nuovo nome al gruppo. I nuovi pezzi, che prendono vita con molta spontaneità, vengono mano mano provati dal vivo per testare l'impatto del sound e le reazioni del pubblico. Le canzoni possono essere inquadrate in un mix di death metal tecnico tra l'americano e lo swedish, con qualche venatura thrash e black…Ad aprile del 2003 i DYSTHYMIA entrano ai GRM Studio di Certaldo (Fi) per dare vita al loro primo demo-cd autoprodotto "Mind…Will…Action", contenente 6 pezzi per un totale di 29 minuti di musica. Oltre alla parte musicale è stato curato con molta attenzione anche l'artwork, con un booklet di 8 pagine (con testi e foto) e cd con stampa professionale.Dopo l'uscita di "Mind…Will…Action" i DYSTHYMIA, per promuovere il demo, hanno suonato spesso dal vivo (sia in Italia che all'estero) anche a fianco di gruppi più affermati; ad inizio 2004 la band ha intrapreso un tour tra Austria e Slovenia con Adimiron, Enemynside e Disguise.Unico neo di questo ottimo periodo è rappresentato dalla chiusura dell'etichetta che avrebbe dovuto pubblicare il primo full-lenght, la Urlo Music (che già aveva lanciato i Mothercare).
Il gruppo continua la sua intensa attività live coronando l’anno 2005 con la presenza al Metalcamp 05, uno tra i più importanti festival estivi d’Europa, a fianco di gruppi del calibro di Slayer, Dissection, Anthrax, Exciter, Soulfly etc…
Alcuni problemi di natura personale e di line-up costringono la band ad un periodo di stop forzato, ottimizzato al meglio con la composizione di alcuni nuovi brani.
Con l’inserimento di un nuovo batterista Giuseppe Bracchi (Deforge, Carpenteria Metallica), i Dysthymia stanno attualmente registrando i nuovi brani che andranno a comporre il promo di 4 pezzi previsto per luglio 07.
Il promo sarà distribuito alle etichette discografiche interessate alla produzione del full-lenght.
Intanto i Dysthymia si stanno preparando per ricominciare l’attività live in maniera intensa e costante.

The band was started at the end of 2002 from the ashes of TEARS OF EVIL with the partecipation of Giacomo Bortone (vocals) and Marco Bruni (bass). Thanks to the great feeling which comes to born between the members, starts the build up of some arrangements; lyrics themselves has an introspective theme of philosophical-metaphysical nature, centred around the theme of mind-will-action. Opaque tones emerge and pervade all lyrics, as a mellow depression, vague but constant. It is exactly this feeling of gloomy sadness (DYSTHYMIA) which gives the group its new name.
The new songs, whitch contain great spontaneity, are subsequently tried out live to test sound's impact and the reactions of the audience.
The songs could be defined as a mix of American and Swedish technical death metal, with some traces of thrash and black…
In April 2003 DYSTHYMIA enter the GRM Studio in Certaldo (Florence) to record their first demo-cd, produced by the group itself "Mind… Will… Action", which contains 6 pieces lasting 30 minutes all together. Apart from the music much care has also gone into the artwork, an 8-page booklet (with lyrics and photographs) and a cd, printed professionally.
In order to promote "Mind… Will… Action" after its release, DYSTHYMIA did often live performances ( in Italy and also in Europe) together with more established groups; at the beginning of 2004 the band started a tour in Austria and Slovenia with Adimiron, Enemynside and Disguise. This prosperous period has been lightly darkened because of the closing of the label which should publish the first full-length, Urlo music (which had already launched Mothercare).
The group continues its intense live activity crowning the year 2005 with their presence at the Metalcamp 05, one of the most important summer's festivals in Europe: Dysthymia had played beside groups of the caliber of Slayer, Dissection, Anthrax, Exciter, Soulfly etc. Some problems of personal nature and other problem about line-up force the band into a period of forced stop; however that may be they had optimized that time to the best writing some new songs. With the insertion of a new drummer Giuseppe Bracchi (Deforge, Carpenteria Metallica), Dysthymia are currently recording the new tracks that will go to compose the new promo of 4 pieces expected for July 07.
The promo will be distributed to record labels interested on production of the full-lenght.
Meanwhile the Dysthymia are preparing for restarting the live activity in intense and constant way.
