| On Saturday, June 21st, the Detroit music community will come together again for the 5th Annual FIBERGLASS FREAKOUT! The event started back at the Detroit Art Space in 2004 by Friends of Dennis Wilson front man Tony Thrush. Now, after a half decade, with the help of local bands, family, friends, and not to mention Joel from the Bohemian Home, the Fiberglass Freakout is able to continue on every year as a summer tradition for the Detroit community and its artists. FIBERGLASS sets it’s self apart from the other local music showcases/ festivals because of the impact it leaves it’s on audience the minute they walk in the door. A previous Freakout participant once said “There was nothing like watching Wildcatting getting into this intense jam while the sun was setting behind them. The energy was so strong you could see people from the surronding neighborhood dancing in the street .” Immediately the retro 60’s garage dancehall atmosphere of the Bohemian and the energy of the crowd encourage one to participate with the audience and have a good time. The main objective of the Fiberglass Freakout is to have “NONSTOP MUSIC and ENTERTAINMENT” for the entire night. We try to accomplish this by having to two stages so the bands can play one after another. Of course, there is the 15 minute break in between bands and thats why we have Detroit’s own DJ Matt Savage spinning all of your favorite jams. Also, because the Bohemian is so big people can take a break from the action and wander around to check out band merchandise, records, and vintage stuff! There’s a lot to do and much fun to be had at the FIBERGLASS FREAKOUT! This year to celebrate summer and 5 years of fun the following bands will be performing: QUALIA(underground psych from beyond) THE VOLCANOS (surf Legends) THE RUINERS (garage on fire), CARJACK, OBLISK, THE BIRDOGS, SPEAKING TONGUES (from Toronto), THE BEGGARS, THE QUESTONS, THE ELECTRIC LIONS, HEROES AND VILLAINS (triumphant return of underground psych/surf kings) and special guests BAD FACES CLAN ( return from the dead). The admission is only $7 for 12 bands, vendors will be on hand as well. See you there! | |
