About Me |
|
The Lisps are a New York-based assemblage of 21st century humans. They are most accurately described as the public/performative version of all the relationships you're struggling with. Here's what happened: Sammy and Cesar fell in love, moved to the Bronx, she adopted his dog, they adopted a cat and recorded some songs, which became their first EP "The Vain The Modest and the Dead." They started playing shows in people's houses, at Fire Museums, and occasionally at legitimate venues. They went on a national tour and spent the summer ending long-term relationships, notably their own, screaming at each other, recording an album and eating vast quantities of generic Grape Nuts. They released their debut full-length album, "Country Doctor Museum" in January of 2008 and celebrated with a sold-out album release party at the beautiful Joe's Pub. They recently returned from their second national tour. Sammy is 5' 4" Cesar is 6' 3/4" Eric is about 5' 10" Jeremy is probably 6' 1" 1 member is not a small boy, but actually a woman of average height with a slamming bod. 2 members were lovers but now just love each other, but not in that way. 3 members are lefties and 1 member is temporarily living with his parents, and that's okay, we're not trying to judge. Half of The Lisps are now Jewish! At any given time, at least 1 member is in love with at least two other members. The Lisps released their debut full length "Country Doctor Museum" in January 2008. Rocksteadies Look Mom we're critically acclaimed! " Like an old time variety show, the Lisps' songs tap dance between simple country guitar melodies to a cacophony of melodica, horns, even bag pipes. Tunis and Alvarez trade lyrics so sweet and silly they sound like the Moldy Peaches' campy, country cousin." - Spin.com " A riveting and revealing hour-long show . . .a true diamond in the rough of local bands." - CMJ " Immediately lovable, The Lisps are a pop band at their core, but they ease their way through the genre's confining walls with not-so-subtle nods to old-time country and vaudeville.” - L Magazine The Lisps validate their buzz-worthy stamp with exuberance & poise. Expect 2008 to bring the zany band universal adoration from coast to coast." - The Music Slut ” Country Doctor Museum rests somewhere between quirky, back-porch folk and a woozy European circus soundtrack. The music is such a great blend of old-school troubadour and contemporary rock cheekiness.” - Phoenix New Times Record Label: uh Type of Label: None |
