About Me

I graduated May '05 from the University of Michigan, with a BA in political science and economics. Now I'm home in Centerville, OH, working full time as an investment associate and going to school full time in the evening to earn an associate's degree in radio and television broadcasting. In my free time, I enjoy being thoughtful, athletic, spontaneous, and creative. What the heck does that mean? I'll be darned if I know. Sound interesting? Drop me a line some time. My Interests

Writing, reading, thinking, biking, lifting, movies, television, swing dancing, architecture, history, politics, photography, cooking, animation, cartooning, singing, acting, filmmaking.

I'd like to meet:

Someone with a treasure map, and a wish granting genie.

Music:

Oldies, jazz, standards, pop, some country, some classical, rock--I believe in keeping an open mind and trying new things. With so much good stuff to experience, why limit yourself?

Movies:

I like old movies--ie, golden age of hollywood stuff. Favorite actors include Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, and Audrey Hepburn. But I also like modern movies with well-developed plots and characters. However, those are few and far between. In terms of genres, I enjoy comedies, romantic comedy, action-adventure, mystery/suspense, sci fi, and the occasional horror (nothing like having your pants scared off to make you feel alive).

Television:

I enjoy sitcoms and quality dramas. Not a fan of reality television. It caters to the lowest common denominator, and it provides less work for writers. As with movies, I'm a big fan of classic tv from the 50s and 60s. I also enjoy some recent shows, like House, 24, Two and a Half Men, and the Office.

Books:

I like books that make me think or teach me something new. Favorites include The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird. I enjoy modernist writing, short stories, and some non fiction works as well.

Heroes:

Batman and my parents.

A Breyer's Bedtime

Some nights, when the heat of my upstairs perch overtakes me; when I tire of water's neutrality, I venture downstairs to the kitchen. Closed for the night, moonlight peering in from the windows, glist...

Pigments of Summer

On those Summer afternoons when I have occasion to ride my bike, I like to pick a road less traveled. Breezing along some quiet stretch of pavement, a gentle summer wind caressing my cheeks, I slant m...

A Poem at 1am

The glass on my desk is one quarter full. Or is it three quarters empty? My daydreams of getting away from it all are becoming increasingly tempting.   But where would I go if I didn't sta...

The "Shit Happens" Moment of the Day

What's brown, white, and gooey, and found it's way to the ledge of my driver's side car window? Bird shit. It looked like Thumbelina had taken an oatmeal cream pie and smushed it on my window, just fo...

Yogurt Cup Youth

Driving home tonight on I-675, I saw a Trix Yogurt sunset. The stratosphere was Blue No. 2. The road ahead was Yellow No. 5. And the space between was one of the most bittersweet shades of Red No. 40 ...

Culinary Thought of the Day

"Baked! Cheetos Crunchy" are nasty. Stay away from them. I realize the popular trend in food marketing is to push low-fat "healthy" versions of popular products. While it makes sense from a marke...
