| My main activity for the past 30 years has been to restore and make violins and cellos,(since 1983 as part of "Oxford Violins" [www.oxfordviolins.com]). I play cello and bandoneon. For the past six years I have been trying to investigate the relationship between music and other fields through involvement with Cafe Reason Butoh Dance Theatre, with whom I have devised and played music (and also danced and done bits of choreography). Recent and ongoing projects (as part of small ensembles) have been duo/trio combinations with Dominic Lash (bass), Philipp Wachsmann (violin/electronics) [IMAGINARY STRING TRIO], Tim Hill (saxophone) [TWITTERING MACHINE], David Stent (guitar), Samantha Rebello (flute), [COCHON REGICIDE], Pete Mc Phail (reeds/flutes) & David Stent [COLD HARBOUR TRIO], an ensemble called AZUT with Paul Medley (clarinets), D.Lash and D.Stent devoted mostly to French Chanson, and also collaborations with Helena Gough (laptop), Malcolm Atkins (violin), Chris Stubbs (percussion), the poet Joe Butler and dancers Ana Barbour and Helen Edwards, as well as a commitment to the activities of the collective OXFORD IMPROVISERS................................................. ............................................................ ............................................................ ............................. The duet CD "GRAZING" which I have recorded with Dom Lash in 2006 was favourably reviewed in the WIRE and PARIS-TRANSATLANTIC that year (This CD by Bruno Guastalla and Dominic Lash is available for sale, please leave me a message if you wish for more info ). ............................................................ ............................................JUST RELEASED NEW CD ON BEAD RECORDS "THE IMAGINARY STRING TRIO" (WACHSMANN/LASH/GUASTALLA) AVAILABLE NOW FROM: info@beadrecordssp.com...................................... ...........................................Here is a review in the "Oxford Times" of the trio's joint Oxford concert with Evan Parker and Steve Grew on the 26th October 2007:......"On Friday evening a double bill of saxophonist Evan Parker in duo with Stephen Grew and the Imaginary String Trio of Phil Wachsmann, Bruno Guastalla and Dominic Lash briskly destroyed the notion that free improvisation entails a group of musicians all blasting away with little or no reference to each other.
