About Me |
|
THE BIOGRAPHY Keratoma is a five-piece metal/industrial band hailing from Cleveland Ohio. It manifested in 2002 as a way for them to escape what music was becoming, a force fed, format driven mind control, created by middle-aged record executives who's idea of artistic expression is limited to shag haircuts and the tightness of your pants. The idea was to make music that they wanted to hear, and music they thought people should be hearing. They have been building a reputation around Cleveland, good and bad, playing extensively with Mushroomhead, punishing audiences with their own headlining sets, and also playing with other national bands like Strapping Young Lad, Dope, American Head Charge, and Lamb of God. Keratoma released their first full-length (sixty-nine minute) album in February of 2005. Smoke and Mirrors is seventeen songs, each a middle finger, pointed right in the face of what is considered Metal today. They attack topics such as betrayal, loss, disgust, mass murder and what passes for government in the foul year of our lord, 2005. The album was recorded by Keratoma, during free reign of Mushroomhead’s “Filthy Hands” studio, and was mastered by the brain of that band, Steve (Skinny) Felton. Most of the music is fast and very gritty, sparked with rage, and powered by the desire to piss in the mainstream. The Keratoma live shows slam into you at light speed, replicating and expanding on every emotion found in their music, and shoving it in the face and down the throat of everyone in ears’ reach. They attack every one of the audiences’ senses during their performances. Using audio samples, disturbing video clips, and their manic on-stage antics, the audience experiences a sensory overload that invokes an addiction rivaling heroin. Currently, Keratoma is working on their follow up to 2005's "Smoke and Mirrors.” With 17 songs already written and more to come, you can expect another monolith of a record. They delve deeper into their psyches’ and pull out even more of their inner demons, kicking and screaming all they way. Also, the addition of their new rhythm section, Bassist Steven Rauckhorst and Drummer Jon Vinson can only help the five piece raise the heavy metal bar. Fusing together Keratoma's mix of industrial sound-scapes, electronic melodies, and metal riffs that would give even the heaviest of bands a run for their money. While the future of the music industry is uncertain, the future of these five cynical assholes is. They will continue to make the music they want to hear, with no cares but for what they want it to be. Not dressed up for radio, and too damn ugly for TV. Bound and determined to piss on the parade of pop culture until they are revered as either the saviors or martyrs of the new millennium’s metal movement, whichever comes first. |
