MySpace Layouts - Las Vegas Night myspace layouts In the summer of 2003, a militia group called Janjaweed, receiving arms and assistance from the Sudanese government began attacking the Fur, Zaghawa, and Massaleit ethnic groups in Darfur. To this day, now four years later, the attacks continue. With over 400,000 killed, countless raped, and 2.5 million displaced and driven from their lifestyles and homes, it's time to stand up and do something. Everyday, the millions of people chased from their homes in Darfur face the threat of starvation, disease, and rape. The few that have managed to survive thus far in the region risk displacement, torture, and murder. The conflict continues to this day spilling into the neighboring country of Chad where many refugees of the crisis have sought to seek shelter from the violence. The Janjaweed, however, have shown that they will stop at nothing to ensure that every Darfurian resident is killed. (Even if this requires invading other nations.) The conflict has been labeled many things - a time of turmoil, mayhem, tribal differences, war, ethnic cleansing, humanitarian crisis, and genocide. Years after the start of the Darfurian conflict, the world is finally beginning to wake up. Until recently, the United States and other nations around the world chose to turn a blind eye to the situation in Darfur. After the Holocaust, vows of "Never Again" and "Not on our watch" were triumphantly echoed throughout the United States and the world. Until recently, those vows have been in vain for the victims of the Darfurian conflict. The time has come when the world can no longer sit back and do nothing. The time for action has come. It's time that we do something. We at "Fight For Life" are vigorously fighting to bring awareness to the situation in Darfur. There is a blue UN "hard hat" icon to the left that will take you directly to the online petition. You will have the opportunity to sign the petition and attach your personal thoughts in a message section. We also have a petition that we are sending to the government demanding that military and humanitarian aid be sent to Darfur, at the very least, to stop the violence and provide food and medical care for the sick and wounded. (With the hopes that one day they will be able to return to their homes.) So join us and not only help us, but every former resident of Darfur by signing the petition. Every human has the right to live! It's time to stand up and FIGHT FOR LIFE! Things are slowly starting to turn around, but we have a long way to go! We cannot do this without the support of wonderful people like you! |
