About Me |
|
| Acclaimed by the San Francisco Chronicle as a "powerful diva in the making" Cuban-American soprano Elizabeth Caballero is becoming widely recognized for her fearless portrayals of the lyric soprano repertoire. She was recently praised by Steven Smith of the New York Times for providing "the evening's most show-stopping performance...offering a thrilling balance of pearly tone, exacting technique and brazen physicality".
Highlights of Ms. Caballero's 2007-2008 season include her return to New York City Opera, where she appears as Nedda in a new production of Pagliacci and reprises her popular Musetta in La bohème. She also makes her anticipated return to Florida Grand Opera as Mimi in La bohème. This season Ms. Caballero makes numerous important debuts: at Carnegie Hall as Lisa in La sonnambula with Opera Orchestra of New York; at San Antonio Opera as Adina in L'elisir d'amore, directed by Garry Marshall, and at New Jersey Opera Theater as Violetta in La traviata. In addition, she makes her international debut as Magda in La rondine at Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, Italy. Last season, Ms. Caballero made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Musetta in La bohème as part of the Met in the Parks series. She has appeared as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with New York City Opera, Florentine Opera, and Mobile Opera, as Micaëla in Carmen with Florida Grand Opera and Mobile Opera, as Mimi in La Boheme with Palm Beach Opera and the Merola Opera Program, and as Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte with the Merola Opera Program and Western Opera Theater. In addition to being a National Grand Finalist in the 2001 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Ms. Caballero has won numerous awards, including the Richard Gold Debut Artist Award for her performance as Donna Elvira at New York City Opera. She placed second in the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition and also has received prizes from the Gerda Lissner Foundation (two-timer winner); the George London Foundation; and Opera Index, Inc.. She was an international finalist in the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition and was nominated for a Sara Tucker Award in association with the Richard Tucker Music Foundation. Most recently, Ms. Caballero was the recipient of the Diva Award from New York City Opera, which is presented annually to an outstanding female artist at NYCO who has reached an important stage in her professional career. A native of Havana, Cuba, she now resides in Miami and studies with Manny Perez. |
