About Me |
|
| Hello everyone. I’m Geoff Davis who fronted both pop/rock band The Freudian Slippers and acoustic based trio Davis, Edwards & Riley - bands which are now defunct. That wonderful violinist Graham Smith, once of String Driven Thing and then Van Der Graaf Generator, often guested with the latter outfit and he plays on 2 of the tracks here - ’Somebody’s Leaving’ & ’Psychotic’s Lament’. We played numerous gigs in the Bristol area from about 1991 with a set which was considered extremely eclectic. Sometimes my songs were described in local press outlets as "lyrically incisive" which was pleasing because I always put a lot of effort into the lyrical side of my songwriting. Hope you enjoy what you hear on MySpace. If you do you can hear a lot more of my songs at SoundClick (see the widgets at the end of this profile) where the song Stay Around is available as a downloadable single. It is also available to download at my Indiestore along with all the other tracks here and five other songs. Click here to read a review of my album ’Ancient Wisdom Modern World’ courtesy of Bryan Anthony at wickmanmusic.com . The album is available to buy at iTunes and at CDBaby . I am also a published poet, (you can read my most recent unpublished poems here ) having had three smallpress collections published by Outposts and more of my work published in various magazines and anthologies. In addition, I’m very keen on art (I painted the picture illustrating the song ’Leaving This City Too Soon’) and have created some pages dedicated to the memory of my father who was a very talented artist Bob Davis And His Art . Of special interest to some will be the paintings he did of scenes in Sierra Leone and Gambia - he was stationed in the two West African countries whilst on service with the RAF in the Second World War. Also, any Bristolians amongst you, or those of you familiar with North Bristol, might recognise Blaise Castle House from his painting of it. (The Blaise Castle Estate is just a short distance from the part of North Bristol where I grew up and where I returned to live in April 2003.) Here is a slide show of a sample of my father’s work. (Click on the link above to see larger versions of these and more of his paintings.) Get Your Own! | View Slideshow This is fun - it maps all my recent visitors! This is a cartoon that dad did of the band ’Davis, Edwards & Riley’ (featuring guest Graham Smith). From left: me, Syd Riley, Graham Smith & Dave Edwards. Now playing: Geoff Davis |
