About Me
PTICA ( The Bird ) "Ptica" (serbian for: " The Bird ") was one of the first jazz_rock band in Belgrade, Yugoslavia ( now Serbia) , along with "Inammorata" (with Kalmic brothers ) and "Mirni Ljudi" ( or Vlajko Lalic Band ) in the seventies. Band was created by the students of Belgrade Music Academy and Bern jazz Academy from Swiss. Many young classical and jazz musicians of that time come across jam sessions held in SKC ( Belgrade Student Cultural Center ) and out of them, band Ptica ( The Bird ) was created. Some of the first "jam" members later continued to study classical or jazz music in Paris (like pianist Aleksandar Damjanovic and oboist Miilosh Raickovic ) or at Berkeley in Boston US ( guitarist Srdjan Miodragovic who played with John McLaughlin ). Drumer Moris Vit started to perform in jazz trio of wunderkind piano player Vlajko Lalic ( also called : the serbian Keith Jarrett ).In the same time saxophonist / flautist Vuk Vujacic played with some popular reggae YU bands Bass player Slobodan Trbojevic (also working as jazz editor for music magazine "Dzubox") later went to rock group Igra Staklenih Perli and try to experiment with psychedelic music of that serbian cult band. In the early beginning "Ptica" was acoustic jazz band ( like US band "Oregon") with oboe, soprano and tenor saxophone, flute, double acoustic bass, concert piano and drums, but, later on , they started to perform live on rock festivals and changed into electric jazz rock band under influence of Weather Report.
