My father was the County Sheriff, so, I lived in the County Jail. One day an African American gentleman told me "Hey boy, you can play them drums, but you play with no feeling. Try some Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolfe, and John Lee Hooker." From that day on, I was hooked, but everyone else was playing Jimmi Hendrix and Cream, and my style did not fit in. I played in and out of bands that played Rock, Country, Gospel, and I also ran a DJ service. In 1978 I was doing a party in Evansville(Ind.) for a friend, and was named Dr. Feelgood by the people there, so that name has stuck with me ever since. I got married in 1979 and was blessed with my daughter Danielle in 1991. One night leaving to go do another show, she wrapped her little arms and legs around my leg crying and begging me not to leave her again. My wife and I talked about it for a minuet...we brought her into this world and it is up to us to raise her. That night we did our last show. That was the best thing I ever did. I'm so proud of Danielle. She has the love of music and is so much more talented than I. When Danielle was 15, I started settin in and jamming again. Now I find myself back enjoying playing the blues, jazz, country and rock. I feel that the Heavy Metal is now for the young guys. I had my time...now it is theirs. |
