My Interests |
|
| We are a family owned bike shop located in Sacramento, California. We have been in business in the same location for over 72 years. College is the oldest bike shop in Sacramento. We love and appreciate all bikes.Owner Terry Cox is also a race car driver that is currently driving a front engine top fuel dragster. He drove the Cheetah III beginning in 2003 until 2006. His new ride, The Cheetah IV is almost completed and will be debuting in March 2008. It is a Uyehara chassis.Back to the bike shop.... Allison's dad owned the shop for over 20 years. When he decided to retire in 2006, Terry and Allison jumped on the chance to preserve the bike shop and continue it's run rather than see it become a coffee shop or loft's like some had envisioned. We are thrilled to be able to oversee College Cyclery and have the utmost respect for all types of bikes and bike riders. Over 14 years ago Terry and Allison bumped into each other on the bike trail on the American River and ever since then have had a love for each other and bicycles. We love mountain biking but also vintage bikes and have a skilled crew to build up custom bikes or restore bikes to original splendor. We carry a large selection of NOS parts and hard to find parts for older bikes. We also have many vintage Schwinns and parts for Schwinns.College Cyclery carries Mountain bikes, BMX, Cruisers, Road bikes, Fixed Gear bikes, Comfort and Folding bikes, and kids bikes. We carry many GREAT bike lines that include Giant, Schwinn, Haro, Redline, GT, Mongoose, Bianchi, Masi, Felt, Nirve, Santa Cruz, Eastern, KHS, Kustom Kruiser, Del Sol, Sun. Torker, Dahon, Foes & We The PeopleWe also carry an everchanging selection of used bikes. | |
I'd like to meet:Anyone who loves and appreciates all types of bicycles and people who enjoy hot rods, drag racing or motorsports in general. If you'd like to visit our website please go to http:collegecyclery.bizIf you'd like to see more about our shop and take a virtual tour with the legendary George Barris, please visit www.http://Barrisbilt.com. Look at the left hand side of the screen for College Cyclery 2006.**Note** There have been numerous opinions as to when the shop was officially established. At the time of filming, the age of the shop was stated to be 75 years old with the date of 1932, however after MUCH research we have since discovered the the actual age of the shop is 72 years old. It was established in 1935 by Mr. Melvin, not 1932 as previously thoughtBikeskills.com: Check out the Ridezone! According to The National Bicycle Dealers Association, bike shops across the country are reporting strong sales so far this year. The likely cause behind the spike is the higher cost for fuel.At College Cyclery in Sacramento, owner Terry Cox said his shop usually gets busy during the warmer months, but this year, it's different. "Definitely this year with the inflated gas prices pushing $4 a gallon and diesel pushing five dollars a gallon, it's definitely driven bike sales up," he said.Angela Kingshill admits to biking more often. She rides for exercise and fun. Lately, however, she's been using her bike to run errands in an effort to save gas. She's even looking at ways to improve her bike to make it easier to do things like grocery shopping. "I went shopping yesterday and I was like, 'I just need to get a trailer because I want to ride my bike,'" said Kingshill. "I can't carry the stuff in my bag, so I'm looking into getting a flat trailer," she added.Cox says one interested in biking to work with a commute less than 20 miles a day, should seek out a standard bike costing around $200. More expensive alternatives can run more than $1,000. Lastly, a cheaper alternative is to buy a used bike or have an old bike refurbished.Copyright 2008 News10/KXTV .
