| MARCO FUMO is considered one of the best interpreters of the Afro-American pianistic repertoire. After a first part of career in classical music, where has collected also many satisfactions, has begun to take care himself of Ragtime to the beginnings of years eighty in order then to analyze carefully to the origins of this pianistic style and the influences that it has had on the successive period, realizing therefore a repertoire that embraces approximately a century of literature: from the Cuban Dances of Saumell, Gottschalk and Cervantes until Gershwin and Duke Ellington, through several composers of Ragtime and Stride Piano which Joplin, Scott, Lamb, Matthews, Morton, Waller, Johnson, Jackson, Smith and many others. He has been taken care with curiosity also of music from film, having had the opportunity to collaborate professionally with Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone, with which he has had the fortune to work for approximately a decade. Marco Fumo has played in all the more important Italian cities, in many European countries and in the United States, taking part to prestigious seasons and festivals is of classical music that of jazz music. Moreover has played under the baton of N.Rota, D.Renzetti, N.Samale, G.Gaslini, E.Morricone, G.Schuller, E.Intra, B.Tommaso, and given première performances of pieces dedicated to him by Rota, Chailly, Gentilucci, Canino, Morricone, Di Bari. Marco has recorded for RAI, the RSI, the Radio Vatican and for the Pentaphon, Edi-Pan, Fonit-Cetra, Dynamic, Soul Note labels. As far as concern the didactic activity, he has taught Piano in the Conservatorys of Matera, Bari, Pescara, Udine and Castelfranco Veneto, where has as soon as concluded a very important experience of a Biennium of specialization in Afro-American Pianistic Literature; for some years moreover has taught to the Civics Courses of Jazz in Milan c/o the International Academy of the Arts and holds seminaries and courses in several cities. He has frequently collaborated with searchers or journalists such as M.Piras, S.Zenni, R.Scivales, M.Franco, F.Fayenz. During the last few years has played in piano duet with Hugo Aisemberg, Kenny Barron, Enrico Pieranunzi. Dopo una prima parte di carriera nella musica classica, dove ha raccolto anche molte soddisfazioni, ha cominciato ad occuparsi di Ragtime agli inizi degli anni ottanta per poi analizzare attentamente le origini di questo genere pianistico e le influenze che ha avuto sul periodo successivo, realizzando così un repertorio che abbraccia circa un secolo di letteratura: dalle Danze Cubane di Saumell, Gottschalk e Cervantes fino a Gershwin e Duke Ellington, attraverso vari compositori di Ragtime e di Stride Piano quali Joplin, Scott, Lamb, Matthews, Morton, Waller, Johnson, Jackson, Smith e tanti altri. Si è occupato con curiosità anche della musica da film, avendo avuto l'opportunità di collaborare professionalmente con Nino Rota ed Ennio Morricone, col quale ha avuto la fortuna di lavorare per circa un decennio. Ha tenuto concerti in tutte le più importanti città italiane, in molti paesi Europei e negli Stati Uniti, prendendo parte a prestigiose stagioni e festivals sia di musica classica che di musica jazz. Ha suonato sotto la direzione di N.Rota, D.Renzetti, N.Samale, G.Gaslini, E.Morricone, G.Schuller, E.Intra, B.Tommaso e tenuto a battesimo prime esecuzioni di brani a lui dedicati da Rota, Chailly, Gentilucci, Canino, Morricone, Di Bari. Ha inciso per la RAI, la RSI, la Radio Vaticana e per le case discografiche Pentaphon, Edi-Pan, Fonit-Cetra, Dynamic, Soul Note. Per quanto riguarda l'attività didattica, ha insegnato Pianoforte Principale nei Conservatori di Matera, Bari, Pescara, Udine e Castelfranco Veneto, dove ha appena concluso un'importante esperienza di un Biennio di specializzazione in Letteratura Pianistica Afro-Americana; per alcuni anni inoltre ha insegnato ai Civici Corsi di Jazz di Milano presso l'Accademia Internazionale delle Arti e tiene seminari e corsi in varie sedi. Ha spesso collaborato e collabora con musicologi e giornalisti quali M.Piras, S.Zenni, R.Scivales, M.Franco, F.Fayenz. Negli ultimi anni ha suonato in duo pianistico con Hugo Aisemberg, Kenny Barron, Enrico Pieranunzi. |
