| In the winter of 2006, I left the United States for an extended stay in Ireland. During the course of my travels, I happened by chance to meet Senator David Norris, while walking along O'Connell Street, Dublin's main boulevard. A week or so later, the senator granted me an interview in his office in Leinster House, the seat of Irish parliament. I can't imagine this ever happening in the United States. Citizens just don't randomly approach their elected officials on the street and then gain access to their offices. But that's what happened in Ireland. | |
