About Me |
|
‘Spectral Fires’ were born in a lifeless Lancashire town that nobody seems to have heard of, in early 2007. Rob Kitto (vocals/guitar), Chris Dance (Lead guitar) and Matt Pitt (drums) had been writing and performing together for several years prior to this. Naming themselves 'Bloom' after a Nirvana song, the band cranked out Pixies, Pearl Jam, Incubus and Radiohead covers (alongside a few originals) in pubs full of underage kids and unsuspecting Elvis fans whilst still at school/university. The end of 2006 saw a change in the intent of the band: writing new material for a new audience. Thus, the appointment of Josh Brown (bass) in February 2007 and the adoption of the new moniker ‘Spectral Fires’ (inspired by an ‘At The Drive In’ song), marked the beginning of the band's musical career. Their love and passion for music drives their ambition to succeed as musicians and to perform to as many people as possible. Music Spectral Fires have a guitar-driven sound which aims to balance intensity and drama with melody and release. Gradually building intros and textured linking passages combine with big choruses and hooks to create the band's indie/alt. rock sound. "Upping the energy levels 100% Spectral Fires were wasted with an early afternoon slot and a small stage. Part of their charm is that they don’t try to replicate any kind of ‘Manchester sound’ as so many of the bands do this weekend. Their influences go back to the Seattle grunge scene but with enough originality to make you want to hear more" "We know it’s a cliché, living in Manchester and all, but the amount of bands trying to ‘reinvent’ the Madchester sound is becoming slightly depressing. Over the last 2 and a half days we have heard so many bands that all sound exactly like each other, and exactly like they want to be the new Oasis. Yes every band draws influence from somewhere but so obviously?! On the plus side we have heard so much that isn’t drawn from the Manchester influence which gives us enormous hope for the future of unsigned music. Bands like Modernaire, El Policia, Carlis Star, The 100 Club, Spectral Fires and The Virgin Marys have all gone down a different route and are making interesting, varied and yet still, in most cases, sellable music so it can be done!"
