Seattle-based singer, songwriter, percussionist Diano Garcia effortlessly embraces several musical genres to create a fluid, afro-latin rock sound with heavy doses of hip-hop, funk and jazz. Diano's sound predicts a future of rich musical plurality where world music is every music, rooted in layered rhythms and intricate melodic structures while tossing geography and the constrictions of individual genres to the wind. Garcia's new album, Turn It On, has received rave reviews from music critics for its infectious, wildly eclectic view of pop music, from the African backbeats of "Vows" to the driving hip-hop of "Soap Box." Writer Kyrby Raine described Garcia as, "Imagine if James Brown had appeared now and instead of the ’60s," in Shotgun Reviews. U.K. critic Adam Harrington of Whisperin & Hollerin praised Garcia for his ability to "stitch together the overlapping genres with funky pop hooks...This is the music of the future, when different cultural backgrounds melt into a multi-layered single unit." Another British writer, Review Centre's Barry Andrews, raved that "Garcia is peering into an exciting possible future when music can no longer be categorized." A veteran of Seattle's ever evolving, diverse, indie music scene, Diano combines his experience as a singer/songwriter with his extensive study of African and Latin percussion to lay a solid foundation for where he is today and where he's headed in the future. Diano's unique musical prism is further shaped by 12 years of touring internationally with various bands and projects. Turn It On presents Garcia as a solo artist, letting loose his background in global pop music and his passion for the ultimate groove. "Diano is a musician who is able to weave pop hooks in a network of world music, acid jazz, hip hop, and funk." - Kyrby Raine, Over/Underground CD Reviews "You'll be sweating by the time it's over!" - Howie Mitchell, Fear of Rap Planet "This is the music of the future, when different cultural backgrounds melt into a multi-layered single unit." - Adam Harrington, Whisperin and Hollerin, U.K. "I featured Diano Garcia on my radio program, 'Soul of Seattle,' and he graciously gave me permission to use his music thematically throughout the show. I simply cannot say enough about Diano's artistry, sensitivity, compassion and intelligence and how it flows, effortlessly, through his music to, well, everyone's ears. If you haven't yet heard of Diano Garcia, trust me - you're about too!" --Jacques Pugh, journalist/host of KPTK AM 1090 Seattle's Progressive Talk, "Soul of Seattle"Buy the album "Turn It On" Now! |
