About Me |
|
Crowds start staring at Tomás Ford before he even drops a beat. He enters, resplendent in sequins, black denim and sparkling make-up. He shakes hands with the crowd, says some polite greetings and makes some small talk. Then he's all over the room. It's sudden; the music's changed... it’s an unusual combination of electro, glam and punk, but it’s definitely got you in a party mood. He’s a fun and disorienting showman, pogo'ing all over the venue, pulling jazz dance moves, launching himself onto unsuspecting crowd members and generally pushing everyone's boundaries. It’s an act that'd see him get the crap beaten out of him if he wasn't so entertaining. Ford has developed a sizable cult following over the last four years at home in Perth and interstate. He's performed with the likes of Architecture In Helsinki, Snax, Bang Gang, Love Is All, Curse Ov Dialect, Theatre Of Disco, Grafton Primary and The Presets and on the Big Day Out Lilyworld for the last four years in a row. He's had huge shows at music and fringe festivals, both with his usual intense sets and festival seasons of Tomás Ford's Cabaret Of Death and Tomás Ford vs The Audience. Ford's cd releases, including his debut LP Nobody Wants To Be You, Five Times and Tomás Ford's Idea Of Fun, have met with critical praise, radio play and overenthusiastic blog posts around the country. He is touring throughout 2008 in the lead-up to his second album release next year. “After the initial shock subsides, you will find yourself enjoying Ford's intense performance. He catapults himself off the stage and into the audience without missing a beat, while managing to sing surprisingly well and keeping the audience enthralled... a very clever and innovative performer who feeds off the audience like a pro.” - The Drum Media “Edgy, dark and unsettling, and one hell of an experience.” - dB Magazine "A unique, audience-scarring entertainment spectacle... Before you die make sure you see a Tomás Ford show." - Rip In Magazine http://www.tomasford.com |
