| Johannes Berauer (*1979) is working successfully as a composer constantly shifting between jazz and contemporary classical music. In 2008 he got the chance to compose the music for the “Linzer Klangwolke 2008” (a multi media open air event, attended by 95000 people) as well as chamber music works for Kirill Kobantschenko (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and Jürgen Ellensohn (hr-Symphony Orchestra). Among his previous works is a cello concerto commissioned by the Austrian virtuoso Friedrich Kleinhapl, as well as plenty of chamber music, music for chamber, string and wind orchestra, choir, big band and small jazz formations. His music has been performed in USA, Australia, and Europe at festivals such as “Styriarte” or “Gmundener Festwochen” including several broadcasts. Berauer won many prizes such as the international Gustav Mahler Competition in 2000 with his violin concerto, which was premiered by violinist Benjamin Schmid. Other awards include the “Talentförderungsprämie des Landes Oberösterreich” or the “Herb Pomeroy Award” for jazz composition. Further he was the winner of the 2006/07 NEC Chamber Orchestra and Piano Trio composition contests. Johannes Berauer completed his M.M. in composition with Bob Brookmeyer and Lee Hyla at the New England Conservatory in Boston/USA with honors, for which he had received a Fulbright scholarship. Previously he had studied at Berklee College of Music and the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz/Austria with Gunter Waldek and Christoph Cech.
