With the monotonous alikeness of today’s artists, it is difficult to find music that stands on its own. Originality, individuality, and uniqueness are rare. Luckily, there are artists like Soojin Yeh on the music scene who are determined to have their voice heard and change the industry.

Born May 29, 1989 in Seoul, Korea, music has been a part of Soojin’s identity from the very beginning. She took piano and violin lessons from the age of six and continued playing in orchestras until after her family moved to the USA in 1997. At age 10 she began singing in choirs and sacrificed piano and violin so that she could focus on her voice. Soon, she was a regular in many local talent shows. At 13 she decided to pursue music as her lifelong career when a friend introduced her to songwriting. Soojin found that she could talk to people, express herself and touch lives through songs that she could in no other way.

She and the friend formed a Destiny’s Child-esque R&B group called Angel. After performing in local events and doing free shows, Angel parted ways due to Soojin’s relocation. Soojin formed a new R&B group called Addictive in her new home that traveled more in the direction of TLC. Addictive cut many songs in the studio but could not agree on their musical direction. The group split after many attempts to finish a demo due to creative differences. Soojin then auditioned for Midnight, the last group she would be a part of. After making the cut, Soojin found out that Midnight was a Hilary Duff type pop group that was completely the opposite of what she had in mind. Soojin then left to pursue a solo career.

After her decision to go solo, Soojin worked as a wedding singer while pondering what she really desired her act to be. She drew lyrical inspiration from rapper Eminem, and became a semi-finalist on Poetry.com with one of her lyrics. Christina Aguilera’s vocal prowess and musical range inspired her as a performer. Her sound remained true to her laid-back R&B roots, consisting of Mariah Carey-like ballads and jazzy melodies compared to Alicia Keys and Keyshia Cole. Soojin them recorded a solo demo CD and is now seeking well-known representation that will guide her to a major label record deal.

Soojin Yeh is an artist like no other. Her lyrics touch topics many artists do not think of, such as racism and suicide. Many listeners have found comfort in that they can relate to and be inspired by Soojin’s lyrics. Her voice and her catchy melodies draw in fans of soon-to-be classics. Her hip-hop/punk rock look makes her stand out among others in her genre even more than the fact she is Korean-American. Soojin Yeh is truly the music industry’s next major revolution.
