About Me

Check out the video for my cover of the Barry White classic, "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby". It was produced by myself and directed/edited by my very good friend Patricia Mueller for Weluv2sing Productions. Much thanks to the rest of the crew: Paul and Greg Mueller, Cario Johnson, Alex Lobos and Adewole Williams. It was just added to KoldKast.Tv on CenterStage!!..BabyDoll Entertainment is the brainchild and dream of its founder, Tracey Whitney, a lifelong performer whose musical roots run deep: her mother Louise Whitney and father Ellis Ray "Ray Boone" Leary, both incredible performers (and proverbial "big fish in a little pond") in Portland, Oregon had eight children who all came out singing. When Tracey was 5, her mom packed up the kids and moved to Los Angeles. Shortly after establishing new roots, Louise toured with legends of soul Solomon Burke and Johnny Otis. Other Whitney clan members like Aunt Mary Lee (who became a member of Stevie Wonder's "Wonderlove", and was the female lead on his “Songs In The Key Of Life” classic, "As"), Uncle’s Sam and Jimmy (both singers) and Kenny Roy (a drummer) also made the trek to California, and all would get a taste of local fame, becoming well-known LA-area entertainers. -- With all this music going on around them it was only natural that the kids would start to mimic the grown-ups, who they always saw rehearsing. Mom Louise and the kids would go on to become the singing group, “The Whitney Family”, debuting at the famed Coconut Grove in Los Angeles when Tracey was 11 years old. For over 15 years The Whitney Family toured the world, recorded 2 albums (one with a Billboard magazine Top Singles Pick), and made guest appearances on several local and national TV shows. After leaving the family band, Tracey continued singing throughout Los Angeles, spent five years performing in Japan, and toured with the Genius Of Soul, Ray Charles as a member of his backing group, “The Raylettes”. -- After years of sharing the spotlight, Tracey Whitney is now taking center stage! BabyDoll Entertainment is very pleased to announce the release of Tracey's new CD, "Love... A Fable In 9 Acts". As executive producer, vocal arranger/producer and writer, Tracey's "Love..." features producers/multi-instrumentalists Jeeve Ducornet and Herman "Hollywood" Dawkins, contributing producer and engineer Cario Johnson, her brothers Phillip on acoustic and electric guitar and Ray on acoustic guitar and bass, Tim Anderson on saxophone and Irene Scott on violin. The musicians grace the record with an elegant touch of jazz, a genre that Tracey always turns to for inspiration for her breathtaking harmonies. Like Sade, Tracey Whitney uses that jazz-inflected sound as a backdrop for her smooth vocal style, an intoxicating formula that sublimely complements her soul-affirming lyrics. "What I'm trying to create with my music is that old-school kind of romantic feel," Tracey says. "I'm singing for people who want what I consider to be real songs, who need to hear that romance in their music again”.

Band Members: TRACEY WHITNEY -- At BabyDoll, I take great pride in continuing the musical tradition started by my parents, aunt and uncles many years ago...
Influences: When I was a little girl, I used to call Rick Dees at 102.7 KIIS FM nearly every day to request some song or another (usually Elton John), and I'm so happy he's back on the air at MOVIN' 93.9 FM! I can see now that I've always had eclectic taste in music. Some of my all time favorite musicians: ************************************************************ ***************************ARETHA FRANKLIN: the soundtrack of my childhood -- CHAKA KAHN: incomparable -- ROBERTA FLACK: her voice is like a lullaby -- STEVIE WONDER: an old friend. My aunt Mary Lee was the featured female vocals on his Songs In The Key Of Life classic "AS" -- JOHN COLTRANE, JOHNNY HARTMAN, MILES DAVIS, CHARLIE PARKER, BILLIE HOLIDAY and TONY BENNETT: true classics -- TINA TURNER and OTIS REDDING: pure soul -- JIMI HENDRIX: my favorite is "Cross Town Traffic", but can you "really have a favorite Hendrix? -- CARLOS SANTANA: I would die and happily go to Heaven to sing with him just once -- BUDDY MILES: awesome drummer, but I LOVED his voice -- PRINCE: what can you say? -- NANCY WILSON: an old family friend. She once told me that my voice "was made for ballads". When I was on the road with Ray Charles I got an ovation at Lincoln Center after singing just one verse of her classic "Guess Who I Saw Today". That was an amazing experience -- ERIC CLAPTON: any day of the week -- KENNY LOGGINS: "Celebrate Me Home" still makes me cry -- THE ALLMAN BROTHERS: Greg Allman's vocals always touch a chord in me -- BTW, I love Country music, sooo THE DIXIE CHICKS: courageous -- WILLIE NELSON and WAYLON JENNINGS: "She's A Good Hearted Woman In Love With A Good Timing Man" (you gotta love those lyrics) -- JOSE FELICIANO, HECTOR LAVOE and ELIANE ELIAS: I absolutely love Latin Jazz -- MERRY CLAYTON: legendary session singer - her vocals on the Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter" still gives me chills...*************************************************** ******************************* Here's my alter ego: ...and here I am in an old photo taken by my friend Lamonte McLemore of The 5th Dimension fame (and Jet magazine centerfold photographer extraordinaire). Too funny...
Sounds Like: A mix of Soul, Smooth Jazz and R&B with a little Rock & Roll thrown in for good measure... ************************************************************ ************************ Wow - I'm very proud to have been named a RadioIndy.com Gold Artist!HERE'S THEIR REVIEW OF MY CD: "Love...A Fable in 9 Acts" by Tracey Whitney is a smooth jazz album that takes you on a journey through the trials and tribulations of love. Tracey is a veteran of the music industry and her voice is deep, sultry and warm. Accompanying her are sounds and arrangements that take you back to the classic days of R&B. These soundscapes are jazzy and soulful with a heavy Gospel influence. Highlights include the sexy-to-the-max "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby". Couldn't help but think of the great Barry White when listening to this one. "How Can You Stop Loving Someone" has some nice breaks and an intimate vocal performance. You'll get another great vocal performance on "A Woman In Love". If you like Sade and Roberta Flack, you'll like this one.
