This Page Is Dedicated To The Late, Great Buddy Miles, drummer on Hendrix’s Band of Gypsies, RIP Buddy! Thanks for visiting my site! The first friend in my friends area is my son Chris and his lovely wife, Tonnie. Both are dedicated nurses! Also in their photos area, my two granddaughters--Reagan (oldest) and Abigail! Yes, proud to be grandpapa Doc now! My site is dedicated to the Spivey family! THe next friend is my son, Oliver, a great bard, poet, Chet picker, Myrtle Beach Life-Guard, and movie expert! Goes by the name Tingler! Do you remember the old Movie? The songs listed here are simply jams at our practices and live shows. They were recorded with a simple DVD recorder. Not polished, but we sound best that way. For you guitarists out there, I’m using a tribute SRV strat into an MJM Blues Devil Overdrive, TS/9 reissue, Vox Crybaby, into a Fender super reverb Reissue amp. I will keep updating the tunes as we proceed.My actual name is Michael Spivey. I’m called Doc Spivey because I hold a Ph.D. in Sociology and teach sociology and anthropology here at a university in NC.I’ve been playing guitar about as long as SRV--we are of the same vintage year and I started playing about the same time he did. We both also shared a similar love for Hendrix. When I first heard SRV back in ’81, I was floored as to our similarity in style. Of course, since then, I have incorporated many of SRVs signature licks! I simply worship SRV’s soul-felt guitar style. I never get bored with listening to his work! I, we all, miss him very much!I started playing at 15 years old in a nine member soul band. I learned a lot of my cord work from those years. My lead playing, of course, has been influenced by Hendrix, SRV, Santana, Clapton, Johnny Winter, Albert King, as well as Leslie West of Mountain.I was a professional musician from the late 70’s till the early 80’s and lived in Nashville, TN. I played with, and am good friends with, the king of the telecaster, Ray Flacke. I also played with recording artists Joe Sun.My Blues Bands have opened up for groups like Jim Dandy and the Black Oak Arkansas and Hootie and the Blow Fish. After leaving Nashville in the early 80s, I re-entered university and obtained my Ph.D. in sociology from York University in Toronto, Canada. Guess which famous club I hung out at there?
