While I won’t be ignorant enough to insist I know the far corners of Mr. Burgess’ mind, I will tell you that I have been witness to his outpouring of community support and family support when nobody else will step up to the plate and be an adult. How many other self-absorbed “adults” do you see sponsoring Halloween gatherings for parents to attend WITH their kids, or distributing free turkeys, or providing emotional, mental and financial support to distressed parents and their kids without asking for anything in return? How many in his line of business and societal status using their voice and position to try and make a difference in this cesspool of a world rather than simply, selfishly, enjoying the perks of notoriety? Dave is loved and respected by many, including my own granddaughters; I hope he is around a long time to see them grow to outstanding young woman. And even though we adults might not know the right direction to point them in, we usually know the direction to point them away from. And just maybe, if you are there to point them during all the dust and confusion, they won't realized you are just being a responsible adult. And by the time the dust clears and they do realize you were acting responsible, they're over one more hurdle in life. And usually the side benefit is, they also learn one of life's most important lessons: ...and that is, "It is possible to act in a responsible way without jeopardizing your coolness." ~ A message "BROUGHT TO YOU FROM A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE IS TOUGH" I read this in the .. safety section: "If youre under 16, MySpace is not the place for you... If youre under 16, there are other sites better suited for you..." (a question from Dave; WHERE? ...To me, that sounds like the same old crap they always hear. Without suggesting an alternative, you are just leading them from the "frying pan" into the "fire.") ... Now that being said, here's the deal, I realize all you teens are "fearless", but one thing you might want to add to your "bag of tricks" is this: When hooking up with new friends you've met on the internet, think about this for a second: If there is a such thing as the devil, you can bet he/she is alive and well on the internet and always lurking close by, ready to trip you up. (I don't know everything, but I know what I know) And for some of you adults who seem to think your children are going to grow-up ok in spite of you, well... A NOTE To EVERYONE: One of my visitors asked me a question, "From a World where Everyone is Tough" ... what does that mean exactly?" Here is my answer: Well to me, It kinda means, "Don't take kindness for weakness."
