The Millennium fell upon us five years ago aseveryone sat in anticipation, some waiting to laugh at the people who swore the world wouldn’t be the same, and some actually biting their nails stocked up on toilet paper and PlantersNuts, waiting for the world to be shook by a humungous computer failure causing anarchy and shortage of food and a world full of paranoid people struggling to get by without theirtechnological advances. Gasp. Some just plain thought the world was going to end. Gasp. Good ol’ Y2K remember? But there was no computer failure, the world is still the world, and itsure hasn’t ended. However, strolling in with the new millennium amidst all the paranoia was an independent label named Under Investigation Records also known as the UI Family. Andthough the UI Family has undergone certain changes of its own over the years, they remain with a six layered foundation that has not collapsed under the circumstances. The UI Family has completed half of a decade putting in a hundred and a half percent into making music in a genre that has grown accustomed to making half of half of a half wayeffort. Have they fallen into the half way methods? Negative. Have they been half of themselves? Negative. The UI Family entered a millennium filled with people in fear, and marched onthrough full speed ahead. Maybe people don’t fear the Y2K computer scare any more, or the false projection the world was going to end, but the fear of being different, the fear ofstanding up and standing out, the fear of growing up is as evident in music as it has ever been. What does UI do? Do they blend in, and take an abundant amount of income being anotherchameleon instead of showing their true colors? Do they become what everyone’s become? Do they settle? Negative. Welcome to the extraterrestrial lifestyle of The UI Family, where it’sinhabitants, dare to be different, dare to stand up for what they believe in, dare to take the risks the fearful have avoided, and where if it’s not infinite they’re not into it. This is the Area 51 of music finally brought to light. This is where you’ll discover the sound that doesn’t sound like others sound. As Playboy professes “elevate, innovate, on the dailyis/ something alien.” This is alien. This is not of this world. This is where you can’t put a label on it, it’s not rap, it’s not hip-hop, and it is not a borrowed formula. It’s that place many havepondered over, they know it’s possible this place exists, but where is it? Where did it come from? It came from the not so simple minded minds of two brothers not of the ordinary namedEmce Sol and DJ Poor. Their idea birthed a movement that people who searched for that one thing that wasn’t like everything, but everything but everything, flocked to support and pushedit strong for this half of a decade. At it’s core you have DJ Poor, Emce Sol, Playboy, 2Tymin’, Offbeat, and yNot?. However the Universal Intention doesn’t stop with six people, many haveoffered that extra push to keep the movement moving and many more will come because the intention is UNIVERSAL. It is endless. There are no boundaries of who and who not to reach.You will be reached. Though the six voices who helped build the ship may have all just been high school friends who had a high level of talent placed in them by The Most High who putthem around each other, it is not the six voices that make up the UI Family alone, but every supporter and listener that pushes this light years ahead. This is the part where usually accomplishments, performances, detailed details of the group’s history would be noted. But this is out of this world, this isn’t “usually”, for what hasbeen done and what has already happened… has already happened. Rather, it is what is done between now and forever that will determine if the UI Family has made an eternal impact.Today is beautiful, the future is bright, but yesterday doesn’t exist in the plans. As Sol says “If you live up in the past you gon’ get passed up fast”.
