| Moving Shadow Records is a UK Drum & Bass record label that was started in 1990 by Rob Playford. It is considered one of the founding pioneers of the genre along with such other labels as Ram Records and Renegade Hardware. Before the likes of styles such as Jungle came around, Moving Shadow based itself on Hardcore, featuring such notable artists as 2 Bad Mice, Kaotic Chemistry, Blame, Hyper-On Experience, and Foul Play. With tracks like "Bombscare," "Drum Trip," "Music Takes You," and "Lords Of The Null-Lines," the label firmly planted itself on the map. As the Jungle scene grew, Moving Shadow took notice. Artists Deep Blue, Renegade, and Dead Dred were signed on to the label, producing immense hits such as "The Helicopter Tune," "Terrorist," and "Dred Bass." Rob Playford's collaboration with Goldie also resulted in the classic, "The Shadow." A softer side of Moving Shadow began to shine as well, as the infused Breakbeat and Jazz sounds of musicians put out more records. The now infamous Omni Trio appeared, along with many others, like Flytronix and E-Z Rollers. With songs like "Renegade Snares," "Contemporary Accousticz Jam," and "Tough At The Top," there was no helping but notice. Now, 15 years later, the label has reached its peak. They have moved in the direction of such genres as Techstep and Darkstep, and have a wide array of well-known artists in their repitoire, including Technical Itch, Dom & Roland, and Calyx. They've dished out tracks such as "The Calling," "Can't Punish Me," and "Follow The Leader." Sadly, Rob Playford declared Moving Shadow to be inactive in late 2007. The label will always be remembered as one of the founding, and greatest, distributors of the Drum & Bass movement. |
