Sad songs in major keys with plenty of hooks, heavy guitar, and pop rock sensibility: Since 2004, HOODLESS have captivated a growing number of NYC music freaks by flying in the face of their maker: In a town saturated with speed metal, emo-punk, and sh*tty college bands with a lot of friends, they dare to be different by embracing super thick grooves, smart hooks, and seemingly simple melodies without sounding like a cheap knock-off of all the bands in their record collections. Far from it: Kevvy Kev’s vocals are thoughtful yet simple, powerful without screaming, and his occasional rap doesn’t conjure up the typical feelings of the Beasties OR Fred Durst. B Lee's bass is flexible yet ferocious. Guitarists Finn and Paul Allan’s work: two distinct voices seamlessly blending together with thick juicy chords and wailing solos. Carter Hoodless hits the skins with the force of a thousand burly men, yet supplying a SUBTLE technicality missing in today’s rock n’ roll. A week in Jersey’s renowned TRAX EAST studios with engineer/producer Eric Rachel (God Forbid, Dillinger’s Escape Plan) to get those long-awaited songs down on tape, turned into a six-month extravaganza. Somewhere among the swirl of tracking, drinking, rewriting, drinking, recording, drinking, blizzards, drinking, mixing, drinking, fighting, drinking, it happened. Thus was born Straight for the Open, featuring the hit Don’t Waste My Time, whose video was featured on HBO, an album of breaking up and making up, hello I love you, go f*ck yourself. Spit and polish with a side of heartache. Running straight for the open, knowing there’s no place to hide. Like the way you move, like the way you talk, party like a warrior...
