| When GIOVY (pronounced joe-VEE) sings, her voice reaches across the room and touches hearts - all she needs are a microphone and a guitar. She can make her voice soar like a pop diva, weep like a folk singer, and shout like a woman who’s got the blues.Her songs are full of passion, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness. She’s 18, and defies the stereotype of the superficial teenager. GIOVY, whose family name is Jiménez, has a gift for listening – a gift that means a lot in this era of disposable, self-absorbed songs that consist of one empty boast after another.GIOVY started writing songs three years ago and hasn’t stopped since. Her music is influenced by country, pop, folk, and Latin. UNO MUSIC’s strategy is to introduce GIOVY to the majors, producers and publishers in Nashville where her music is already receiving an excellent response.GIOVY’s youthfulness comes through not as immaturity, but in the clarity of her emotions and her sense of wonder and passion when singing about love.A perfect example is “Loca Loca.” Actually in English, it’s a lovely song with a dramatic melody and expressive lyrics about how good love can rock your world: “A friend had met this guy and she was crazy about him,” GIOVY says. “She couldn’t stop thinking about him. The idea popped into my head to create this song about a love that makes you crazy and fills you up and takes you over in a good way.”Another great GIOVY original is “To Be Able to Love,” which she wrote as a tribute to a beloved uncle who died after a seven-year battle with illness. “He left an impact on me with his desire to accomplish things and to love and to live in the moment. Especially in my songwriting, I want my music to convey a positive message of love and giving your all in life.”With the virtuoso Cris Zalles (who’s worked with Ricky Martin and Dance With Me star Chayanne), GIOVY recently wrote “Do I Need a Broken Heart,” a piano-framed ballad about saying yes to love in spite of hesitation. GIOVY also teamed up with 2007 Grammy nominated singer songwriter Elsten Torres, co-writing "No Ordinary Day".And in addition to being a gifted singer/songwriter, GIOVY is also a natural performer, she began performing at 7, reveling in singing her favorite ballads by such singers as Celine Dion. By the time she was 12, she knew that music was what she’d live for. “I did 200 shows in two years - festivals, political events, charity events.”GIOVY’s mother is from Colombia and her father is from Mexico. The family settled in Florida, where GIOVY was born and raised.
