ENGLISH BIO There is a true rock’n’roll legend that is now possible to contest; the one that claims, backed by numerous examples, that the follow-up to a first noticed and remarkable album, ends in a systematic collapse. Very confident in its musical nature and not really frightened by this “fear of the second album ", the trio rhesus went back to their studio in the beginning of 2007 with a happy creed: “Let‘s not keep the perfect takes, let‘s keep those that tell us something .The energy of live sound, the crackling amps, the small technical surprises with risky exits: all this had to be translated on the album; and without make-up. rhesus recorded what will make the substantial marrow of The Fortune Teller Said in 10 days, in the famous BlackBox Studio (Deus, Blonde redhead...). “On this album, we really enjoyed ourselves, we privileged spontaneity and we set apart the problem of format to keep all that moved us “tell the group. The listening of this dreaded second album confirms this. By focusing on its bases and musical values, by letting their heart speak, without calculation or reasoning, the group gave to The Fortune Teller Said this blood and tears feeling which have made the success since their very beginning of their live performances. The voice of Aurélien opens on the record. In a breath, the singer of rhesus gives the "A" before beginning on hubcaps the very effective “No. Directions” real pop tune and probably one of the most "live" fragments of the album. Markers in the red, the band then goes on with the first single extracted from the album, “Hey Darling”, a complete demonstration of rhesus’ acrobatic musical art. Further on, I Suppose, Forever and Black Cat/White Cat also play this rebellious card which should guarantee beautiful electric kicks on stage. Magnificent "Little Things"and its attractive soul tints or the moving"Someday" and its waterfall of trumpets chill the vibe, privileges the bitterness, before the excruciating "Will You Follow me", one of the most surprising tracks of the album, a stunning spine chilling icy wind. Two interludes come to complete the album:" Berlin", with Aurélien on ukulele, is a beautiful love declaration for his city of adoption whereas very new-wave "In a Car», explores new synthetic musical tracks."I Still Think of You (Sometimes)" concludes the album with silky folk arpeggios and a subtle progress of obsessing choirs. «Finally when I listen to the record, I recognize our sound, the sound which we produce, all three of us, in rehearsals and live ", tells Simon before ending in the most sincere way which is: " it has been 6 years since Rhesus has been created, at the beginning it was just a group of friends and now it has become our lives, our craft, our little business, with concerts rehearsals, our creativity... ... We are all involved 300 % in the band, it is really our thing, a passionate thing... ". And it is with a great pleasure that we shall find this "little business" - which certainly does not experience crisis - on the road in Europe in the next few months…. BIOGRAPHIE Il est une légende tenace dans l’univers du rock à laquelle il est possible aujourd’hui de tordre le cou ; celle qui prétend, à coup d’exemples tapageurs, que donner suite à un premier album remarqué et remarquable, se solde par une débâcle systématique. Tout à fait confiant dans sa nature musicale et pas vraiment apeuré par cette « peur du second album », le trio est ainsi rentré en studio début 2007 avec un credo bienheureux : « Ne gardons pas les prises parfaites, gardons celles qui racontent quelque chose ». L’énergie du live, les amplis qui crépitent, les petites surprises techniques aux issues hasardeuses: Tout cela devait se retrouver sur le disque, brut et sans fard. En 10 jours, au fameux studio Black Box d’Angers, aidé par le producteur Nicolas Schauer (« une vraie rencontre pour nous »), rhesus couche sur bandes ce qui fera la moelle substantielle de The Fortune Teller Said. « Sur ce disque, on s'est vraiment fait plaisir, on a privilégié la spontanéité et on a mis la problématique de "format" de coté pour garder tout ce qui nous touchait » raconte le groupe. Et l’écoute de ce redouté deuxième album confirme tout cela, à la note près. En se resserrant sur ses bases et ses valeurs musicales, en laissant parler le coeur, sans calcul ni raison, le groupe a donné à The Fortune Teller Said ce côté sanguin et rugueux qui font depuis leurs débuts le succès de leurs prestations live. C’est la voix d’Aurélien qui introduit le disque. Dans un souffle, le chanteur de rhesus donne le « la » avant d’entamer sur les chapeaux de roues l’ultra efficace No Directions, véritable tour de force pop et sûrement l’un des morceaux le plus « live » de l’album. Les potards dans le rouge, le groupe enchaîne pied au plancher avec le premier single extrait de l’album, Hey Darling, parfaite démonstration de l’art musical acrobatique de rhesus. Plus loin, I Suppose, Forever et Black Cat/White Cat jouent également cette carte frondeuse qui devrait garantir de belles ruades électriques sur scène. Le splendide Little Things et ses jolies teintes soul ou l’émouvant Someday et ses trompettes en cascade calment le jeu, privilégient l’amertume, avant que le poignant Will You Follow Me Out, l’un des morceaux les plus étonnants de l’album, surprenne par son souffle glacial. Deux interludes viennent s’insérer dans le disque : Berlin, jouée au ukulélé par Aurélien, est une belle déclaration d’amour à sa ville d’adoption tandis que le très new-wave In a Car, explore de nouvelles pistes musicales synthétiques. I Still Think of You (Sometimes) conclue l’album avec des arpèges folk soyeux et une subtile progression aux ch--urs entêtants. « Finalement quand j'écoute le disque, je reconnais notre son, le son que l'on produit à trois dans le local de répète et en live », raconte Simon avant de conclure de la manière la plus sincère qui soit : « Ca fait 6 ans que rhesus s'est crée, au début c'était un groupe du samedi après-midi, et puis maintenant c'est notre vie, notre petite entreprise artisanale à nous, avec les concerts, les répètes, la création ... On est tous impliqués à 300% dans le groupe, c'est vraiment notre truc, un truc passionnel. ». Et c’est avec un plaisir certain que l’on retrouvera cette « petite entreprise » - qui ne connaît sûrement pas la crise – sur les routes d’Europe ces prochains mois.
