Mike began his career at the age of 5, playing drums taught by his grandfather. At the age of 8 he joined a stage school to pursue the entertainment business. He also studied at the Barking and Essex College of Music, studying music theory, drums and percussion, and also playing in the Essex Jazz Band. His first stage appearance was at the London Palladium playing Boy Babe in “Babes in The Wood” with Edward Woodward and Derek Nimmo.

This all led Mike to his first group called The Young Revival and, at the age of 1O, Mike made his first television appearance on Blue Peter Mike performed in cabaret at the London Hilton and the Cafe Royal.Whilst performing at the popular Civic Theatre, Bow in a charity show Roger Price, a Thames TV producer, spotted Mike and the band and signed them up. The group’s name was changed to Flintlock.

Mike and Flintlock went on to have five busy years, including spots in many TV shows and series including “You Must Be Joking” and “Fanfare” as well as “Pauline’s Quirkes” and “Top Of The Pops” Flintlock made five albums, had two hit records, performed some 3OO or so concerts all over England with the likes of Showaddywaddy and Guys and Dolls as well as achieving notable success in Japan and Germany. It was at this time that Mike was chosen to star in ITV..s “The Tomorrow People” Mike made his first appearance in “The Tomorrow People” as Mike Bell in the season four opener "One Law" broadcast on British TV on 28th January 1976 [Mike's 15th Birthday]. He subsequently remained with the series until its last episode broadcast on 19th February 1979 in the season eight stories "War of The Empires".
