| It started in '94 I put an Ad in the Rock City News Singer looking for band. Tracii Michaels called me up and invited me to a party In N Hollywood at the Candy cane lane (later Rock Stars Kill) Warehouse. Violent Playground was playing. I made alot of great friends that night. Revlon Red, Heart Throb Mob, Darling Dead, The whole LA glam scene. A few days later Violent Playground joined forces with me and Karole Denning and we were off. Played our first show at the FM station, a few shows later we were at the Whisky headlining. Many mini tours and shows later and we put out a self produced CD "Beg Borrow and Steal" Its a flawed album, done in a rush and I was very green at the time. But it seems to hold up amongst the fans, so hey, thanks! Unfortunately things didnt pan out. shortly after the CD release the band just blew apart over night. A year and a half down the tube and I thought it was over.... But I HAD to go tot he Rainbow that night. In walks a RED haired, top hat wearing, two different color converse sporting, drummer extraodinaire by the name of Ricky Perdue. Ricky's band had broken up after moving out to LA and he said he had a feeling he was gonna jam with me. It didnt take much convincing. The kid got me so psyched, his whole philosophy was we're brothers first and band second. My Roommate, Chris Lacey, helped out on guitar. Beau from MOTHER MERCY told me about his friend Randy, an AMAZING guitar player we gotta check out. Frank Santana from MOTHER MERCY graciously offered to fill in on bass. And that was it. That first Jam session in the soon to be infamous IVAR STUDIO set it in stone. Randy pulled out a Les Paul, Ricky started destroying the drums, and we wrote "Overrated in about ten minutes. Life never felt so good. So Began the Ivar days, wed rehearse all night and then go to the Rainbow at 2, hand out flyers for our after hours party where we'd charge money for booze (gotta pay rent) and play a free show/Jam session. If you were there you remember, if you werent, trust me ALOT of fun was had. Members of WASP, Motorhead and local Royalty like AlleyCat Scratch & The Glamour Punks would be there on any given night (as well as most of the crowd from the Rainbow). A month or so of that and we had the hype we needed. Packed shows at the Whisky (which my big mouth would eventually get us banned from lol) and the Roxy followed. We coheadlined with Pretty Boy Floyd (they tell me we stole the show , heh. ) and set an attendence record at the Roxy that stood for years. We were the first unsigned band allowed to play the Billboard Live club (now the key club), we got an award from Rock City News, and mentioned in everything from Metal Edge to Los Angeles Magazine, plus some radio play, some local tv and radio interviews. Frustrated with the pay to play music scene in LA we set out on the road, making friends along the way, playing vegas and phoenix heavily and eventually making it out to Chicago and New York. We released 'Screaming At Deaf Ears' as our music was getting heavier and darker and set back out on the road yet again. For many reasons, things just came to a halt in 2000, unfortunately, and the best time of my life was over. I THOUGHT that would be that. But people still ask, the cds still sell, and the emails still come so godbless ya for that and enjoy. | |
