After graduating from Berkeley High, she became a licensed hair cosmetologist and established her popular salon Nappy Or Not, in Oakland, California. Red began singing and using instruments at the age of five at her grandfather’s sanctified church in her hometown of Houston, Texas. Red draws inspiration from artists ranging from Etta James, Sam Cooke, George Clinton to Michael Jackson, Jill Scott and Jay Z. She has crafted a crafting a unique musical and vocal sound that blends elements of R&B, Rock, Funk and Hip-Hop into a new sound that is now rapidly becoming popularized as Neo-Soul Rock. When she’s rapping she is known as “Rhonda G”. When her sultry voice is soul rockin’ she is known as the popular singer “Red the Black Blonde”. Red performs regularly at some of the Bay Area’s well-known live music venues including the Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley and the Elbo Room in San Francisco.
