| Our music is passionate, whether it be intensely dark or euphorically blissful. We weave tales of love, heartache and fantasy in a dark, cinematic, folky style taking influence from Eastern European folk and Klezmer music. Every inch of us is yours... please be gentle. "While weaving tales of love, heartache and fantasy in their intensely dark and mystical style, as well as playing some of the south’s top venues, Petrushka are quickly proving themselves to be one of Brighton’s most interesting and captivating bands. From these young minstrels come beautifully entwined vocal melodies with lyrics that bring to mind echoes of carnival-esque lullabies written by a much older soul; delicate and intricate guitar work and songs so immersed in passion and pathos that they’re sure to haunt the memory long after the first listen. Lead-singer Dan Shears has an angelic voice that sounds as though he’s singing from his very soul. Although vague nods to acts like Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Morrissey are evident, Petrushka blend these influences with the folk music of Russia and Eastern Europe and make it their own. They are definitely one to watch."
