CONTROL PICKS UP 2 AWARDS AT THE SONY ERICSSON EMPIRE AWARDS 2008 Despite not scooping the ‘Best British Film’ award at Sunday’s Empire Awards, CONTROL managed to win two awards, including the Sony Ericsson Soundtrack award!
THE CONTROL PODCAST Non iTunes users, click here CONTROL the movie is one of the surprise critical hits of the year. It has already won the Best European Film award at Cannes 2007 and will be released across the UK on 5 October. Directed by legendary rock photographer and video director Anton Corbijn - famous for his work with U2, REM, New Order and many others - the film tells the story of Ian Curtis and Joy Division. The film is based on the acclaimed biography by Ian Curtis' wife Deborah Curtis' entitled - TOUCHING FROM A DISTANCE. In CONTROL the music is an incredibly important part of the story, and so the soundtrack - chosen by Anton - is an essential parallel to the film. From the '70s glam strangeness of early Bowie, Roxy Music and Iggy Pop - artists whose work moulded Ian Curtis - to the thrill of The Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks, the punk acts who inspired Curtis and the other members of Joy Division to become a band, the soundtrack moves on to specially-recorded versions of Joy Division's own music - not least in the form of a powerful re-imagining of Transmission by American band The Killers, who are such huge fans of Joy Division and New Order that their actual name is a New Order reference. CONTROL is both an extraordinary album in its own right and a superb tribute to a man and a band who themselves had a lasting and unforgettable impact on today's music. |
