Soweto was born in Gracia, one of Barcelona's most popular districts, towards 1998. A group of friends deeply captivated by Jamaican music and traditional black music sound decide it is time for action: No more just listening, now it is time to create their own music inspired on the music they love. It was not an easy way until their first concert in 1999 but through live performance the group of friends starts to become a solid band. After all they found on the stage and through direct contact with their audience the real sense of their music.Band keeps its pace in a slow but constant way full of concerts and also some members change. Their talent shows up in every new concert and their songs become more consistent. Soon specialized press put their eyes on them. Right now Soweto is one of the captains of Jamaican music in Barcelona. Seven musicians on their way to become one of the top bands in Catalunya and why not, in Spain.The band has just released a new maxi single , "Selects"; where they show the evolution of the band music and their present interests. It is a disc not only addressed to all the people who regularly listen to this kind of music, many of them already Soweto followers, but also for those who don't know much about Jamaican music or the band but who for sure will like this kind of sound. After all, one of the main Soweto goals is to try to renew and to rediscover an almost forgotten music style; Jamaican music with a little touch of Jazz and American rhythm & blues. Soweto neix a la Vila de Grà cia cap a lany 1998, les influències de la música Jamaicana i els sons tradicionals de la música negra fa que un grup damics prenguin la iniciativa de trobar temps per reunir-se i començar una experiència desafiant, reproduir tota la música que fins al moment només escoltaven i admiraven. El camà no va ser fà cil, però la banda desprès del seu primer concert al 1999 es comença a consolidar i agafar un altre caire, de manera que el grup troba en els escenaris i el seu públic una forma de canalització i projecció de la seva música.La banda segueix el seu curs de manera lenta però sense pausa, hi ha canvis de membres, concerts i actes dimportà ncia. Cada vegada, i com a músics amb projecció, la seva música es de més qualitat i les seves intervencions son més ressaltades per la crÃtica de lescena. Això fa que avui en dia Soweto sigui un dels grups emblema dins de la música Jamaicana de Barcelona. En lactualitat Soweto esta formada per set membres que segueixen un camà recta i directa cap a ser o voler ser una de les bandes a Catalunya i per que no de lestat.La formació actual ja consolidada, volia plasmar els seus interessos en un Maxi Single que ha vist la llum aquest 2005, el seu nom es Selects..., el grup ho fa per la gent que els escolta, que ja son molts, i per a tota la gent que no coneix aquest tipus de música i la banda en si. De fet, un dels objectius de Soweto es portar amb bona lletra un estil gairebé oblidat o desconegut com es la musica Jamaicana dels 60 amb una clara influencia del Jazz i el Rithm and Blues Americà .
