About Me

What does the name Scrapploc mean?  The name Scrapploc represents the merging of 2 opposing forces, The Mind and The Body.  Scrapp is short for scrappy, which describes Scrapploc’s upbringing on the streets of West Los Angeles.  He was raised on 2000 Block Garth Avenue, in a West LA neighborhood known on the streets as Playboy Hood.  Although this was considered a very rough neighborhood, Scrapploc always had an attitude of never backing down from anyone.  “My thinking was always that if I ran from a fight or didn’t put up a good fight, then I would always get sweated.  I decided to always stand up for myself no matter how big the other guy was, and it worked out cuzz I had the respect of a lot of people although I was small myself.”  But scrappy doesn’t just describe someone who gets into a lot of fights; it also describes someone that doesn’t back down or away from any challenge, no matter how big or small.  The word Loc describes the mentality of someone who is not afraid or scared to do whatever’s necessary to accomplish a goal; “Down for Whatever.”  The word Loc was originally created by Crips and Bloods to describe someone who is down at all costs.  Although Scrapploc has not been a member of any gang for sometime now, the word Loc is still very much apart of his character. “At the age of 16, my family moved me out to Atlanta to stay with my pop cuzz they felt I was getting into too much trouble.  Atlanta gave me the opportunity to think on a whole different level, especially in the face of the Southern-Style of racism.  Then I began to understand how gangs were designed by these same people to keep Blacks and Mexicans divided and killing each other.  This is when I started thinking about uniting and enlightening my people, instead of helping to keep us divided.  Atlanta is actually where I became not just a man, but a thinking man.”  So when you combine the words Scrapp and Loc, it personifies the Dualistic nature of the Soldier and the Thinker; Mind and Body working as one.  Through the various life experiences of Scrapploc, and his reliance on the strength of the Most High, he seeks to raise the awareness of a people who have been lulled to sleep by the seductive songs of the beast.  Scrapploc seeks to accomplish this goal by creating songs that enlighten and awaken the sleeping giant that lies within all of us. “I feel that you have to have balance.  To be a straight loc and ride on anybody for nothing isn’t the way to live.  But to be a bookworm and try to force feed knowledge to people with no action is just as stupid. The key is to have a good balance between the side of yourself that’s down to ride, with the side of yourself that thinks before you act.  With that being said, we all have a little bit of Scrapploc in us.”
