"First off i do not try to display myself or make myself into any thing i am not, however intend to display myself and my music as close to professional as possible. Hopefully one day i will reach this goal...." Dustin Purtan was born and raised in a small suburb of Akron, Ohio. Growing up music has been a huge part of his life. Being young and restless in middle school he decided to pick up the drums. Playing only the snare drum he knew he would evolve to greater things. Dustin knew his heart was meant for the drum set the first time he saw and heard Tommy Lee of Motley Crue play. After that it was countless days of nothing but Crue records blasting in his ears. Most of his family says they can recall seeing him run around singing the classic hit "Girls Girls Girls". When reaching High School Dustin became involved in all music classes there were available. While tearing up the music at school Dustin would spend his weekends and some weeknights playing out about Ohio. He has been and is involved with countless musical acts. However he says he is still trying to make it in the business of music. Dustin is planning on attending The University of Akron. Here he will pursue a Bachelors degree in Music Performance as a percussionist. Dustin will also be studying with some of the finest percussionist around. One to mention is Dr. Larry Snider. Dr. Larry Snider is a renown percussionist who is currently endorsed by Yamaha drums and Sabian Cymbals. He is also the Principal Percussionist of the Akron Symphony Orchestra and is Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Akron. Dustin is also trying to achieve a goal where he might be named next to great drum set players such as Virgil Donati, Thomas Lang, and Marco Minneman. So, it was in late 2007 that he decided he wanted to take his music a step further. Dustin is now currently working on his first ever solo cd. Within this cd Dustin has come to the conclusion to consider himself the first Glam/Progressive drummer ever. Taking the style of Virgil Donati with the likes of Tommy Lee out came Dustin Purtan.
