| Acherousia is a project which attempts to create soundscapes that reflect ancient and modern experimental musical tones.Our main source of inspiration comes from ancient greek mythology, philosophy, religion and theurgy. We are not by any means connected to a universal neopagan movement.The term neopaganism is a very vast term.The organized religion of ancient Greece had nothing in common with folk religions of primitive societies.So to place all religions that existed before the christian religion under the same category just because of the fact that they differ from christianity would be a hasty generalization.Of course this suits the purposes of the christian church which tries to pose as more civilized than "the heathens", "the pagans" etc. There is not much teaching of the ancient greek mythology in the modern greek education, while theologists still give teachings of the old testament which is actually the hebrew mythology and cosmogony.To call us antisemitics because of this statement would be ridiculus.We do not support nazism or other extremist political ideologies.We are against tyranny and any form of oppression. There are many concepts from the ancient times that are misinterpreted today.Necromancy (or necyomancy) of the ancient world is something quite different from that of the movies, fantasy novels or role playing games.Also, daemons are the holders of knowledge, spirits inferior to gods and they are not evil by default.They are not the same as the medieval demons of christendom. Any person that finds interest in our music will be added regardless of country of origin, race and beliefs. |
