About Me |

| Welcome. My name is Omar Taji, I was born in Windsor, Ontario and was raised in Detroit, Michigan where I began studying piano at age 4 with my first piano teacher, my grams. At the age of 11, I relocated to Florida where I was first introduced to the art of improvisation by pianist and good friend Danny Fels of Port St Lucie, Fl. Classical music became my focus during my early teens and I was able to study with composer/ concert pianist Mary Harrison of the Royal Conservatory, having some of my compositions and improvisations featured on local radio stations. I've played in a variety of different musical genres, collaborating with a broad range of musicians from South Florida, Detroit and abroad. Major influences are Charlie Parker, 'Trane, Anthony Braxton, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Sun Ra, Bach and all of the free thinking cats who brought the universal beauty of music in its spiritual form to people here on earth.
