Die Band wurde gegen Ende 2004 unter dem Namen „a timeless portrait“ gegründet. Von Beginn an wurde viel mit den Einflüssen des Hardcore-, Punkrock- und Metal-Genres experimentiert, um einen eigenen Stil mit viel Tiefgang und einem hohen Wiedererkennungswert zu erschaffen. Im Jahre 2007 erschien die EP „Fraktur“, auf der sechs Songs enthalten sind, teils mit deutschen, teils mit englischen Texten. Nach zahlreichen Auftritten mit der ursprünglichen Besetzung kam dann im Sommer 2007 der neue Schlagzeuger Gereon ins Spiel. Mit neuer Energie und neuen technischen Möglichkeiten begannen die Jungs, neue, schnellere, härtere und eingängigere Songs zu schreiben. Von nun an wurde die Band unter der Abkürzung „atp“ bekannt, die nicht nur für „a timeless portrait“ steht, sondern auch für „Adenosintriphosphat“, welches in der Biophysik mit Energie-Freisetzung in Verbindung gebracht wird. Im März 2008 erschien die Split-CD „Fingerpoints and Sing-a-longs“, auf der neben den beiden „atp“-Songs „This is about“ und „Klonkrieger“ auch jeweils zwei Songs von COAX und GET ALIVE zu finden sind.
