About us: Science of Sounds (SOS) is an artistic management and production agency based in Beijing. Set up initially in Manila as a collective of electronic DJs from Spain, SOS now represents and manages both local and international DJs in China, as well as invites renowned global DJs to perform at SOS organized events throughout Asia. We are also involved in a wide-range of music projects from music production to training DJs of the future. Our philosophy is simple: To explore the newest musical trends while absorbing the life and culture around us to produce a diverse and versatile beat which epitomizes the renewed dynamism and spirit of Asia. Horizons: There drifts an untapped energy through the narrow city streets and below the myriad cranes and skyscrapers of Asia’s renewed urban landscapes. PONG MUSIQ PRESENTS: ANIMAL INSTINCT E.P. WITH HAVANTEPE RMX!!! (STYRAX AND LEAVES) If we analyze the sonic evolution of Retronouveau, we come to an interesting conclusion. While they toughen in their studio and mature they knowledge, their music developes the inverse way, tending to the classic effectiveness of techno and giving to minimal modernity the definitive cold shoulder. Showing things of it, they have given birth to this brand new piece of plastic; a return to the roots and rhythms than once made them fall in love with the music made with machines. For their second experience with vynils and test pressings, the exquisite label Pong Musiq keeps backing the hidden Barcelona based creators. Hector and Javi don..t dissapoint, and they hit us with no mercy with their old school tasted 12”; old school in both format and musical aspects, because of the classic beats stamped in the grooves. The “Animal Instinct” EP opens up with a helicopter-beat that flies over for the first minutes. From this moment on, the atmosphere becomes emotional and hypnotic, and evolves ascending to the catchy melody that vertebrates the tune. Coexisting with a rubby bass, this pattern will give us for sure great minutes of summer morning dances. Remainig faithful to their principles, the label entrusts the emerging Haventepe with the producing of the remix. He transforms that feeling of “music for intense dawns” into something more nocturnal, dark and primitive. Respecting the notes of the synth line, dresses the track with a dubby atmosphere, full of detroitian shades and echoes. With a deep contundence drum, the turkish producer reformulates the initial proposal into something that sounds more like an underground dark twin of the original. The B Side of the EP is “Cyclical Lives”; a very personal and dark wink to different past life moments of the authors. Opening with a metalic spring, this bassline gets surrounded by more organic sounds, liquid, you could say. This drippy effects give that “all time classic” feeling, and is backed by terribly fat base that is starting to become Retronouveau..s (and Pong Musiq itself..s) trademark.
