FAQ and other things you might like to know about The Flowerthief

Q: Drinks are on us, what's your poison?

Christian: Just a cup of coffee with a shot of espresso, and two teaspoonful of brown sugar please.

Ben: Whiskey. Whiskey-coke, Whiskey-ginger, or Whiskey on the rocks... Whatever. And as far as beer is concerned, it's all about the IPA.

Q: What's with the moniker?

Christian: My real name's kinda boring. I was looking for something memorable, something that would raise people's brows and think..."who is this guy?" I remember reading about this British singer-songwriter who calls himself Badly Drawn Boy. I said to myself, "Whoa! That's a cool name!" I guess The Flowerthief is a cool name.

Ben: Christian likes to read.

Q: If push comes to shove, is your all-time favourite album?

Christian: The Beatles, otherwise known as the White Album. Why? It's got everything there is to know about their versatility as songwriters and musicians.

Ben: Shit. i hate this question. It changes so often in my head that i'm not even sure if i understand the concept of "favorite". If i had to pick one, I'd probably pick the album that got me listening to good music: Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness by the Smashing Pumpkins. If you ask me on the street what my favorite album is however, my responses will be varied. I also really love Beck's Sea Change.

Q: What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?

Christian: I don't remember which one it was. There's always a lot of records lying around the house when I was a kid so there's no need to purchase any. A lot of it are vinyls from the 60's and 70's. When I reached the age of buying my own collection, it was CD's but like I said there's no need to at the time. If it's vinyl you're talking about, it's Odyssey & the Oracle by The Zombies. I bought it from someone who was getting rid of his record collection together with all his material possessions because he's embraced Buddhism.

Ben: JEEZ. Jars of Clay! I believe, when I'm like 14. Much Afraid was the title. I grew up pretty religious.

Q: Which musician have you ever wanted to be?

Christian: Paul McCartney.

Ben: Beck all the way! Well, except for the whole Scientology thing.

Q: What do you sing in the shower?

Christian: The Crystal Ship by The Doors. My voice matches Morrison's baritone with all that natural bathroom reverb.

Ben: I usually sing whatever it is I'm currently "in to". Lately, It's been The National - Slow Show from the recent album Boxer, which is AMAZING by the way. I've also recently been lathering up to The Helio Project - Lately. It's also a great song and in my vocal range.

Q: What is your favourite Saturday night record?

Christian: Pulp's Different Class.

Ben: Wincing the Night Away - the Shins.

Q: And your Sunday morning record?

Christian: Sunday Morning by The Velvet Underground.

Ben: Nick Drake - Bryter Layter

Q: How would you describe your music?

Christian: It's a concoction of different styles ranging from rock, folk, pop, experimental, psychedelic, a little bit quirky at times.

Ben: My music? well i'm the drummer so... BANG BANG BANG! how's that?

Q: If the sum of your musical influences shape your musical identity...

Christian: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, a bit of Brian Wilson, and Syd Barrett.

Ben: Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Pedro the Lion, the Beatles, Death Cab For Cutie, and Beck.

Q: When did you start writing songs, and what made you?

Christian: When I was 14 or 15 I think. I picked up the guitar at 13 and practiced a lot and learning all the Beatle songs and singing them over and over till I got tired of it and decided to try if I can write. I seriously started writing proper songs when I formed my first group because we suck at playing other people's songs.

Ben: I've written a few songs. Drums are a creative outlet without a melody so writing songs as a drummer can be disappointing. Just listening to my favorite artists like Death Cab or Radiohead and the words they choose, express often, very basic human feelings would so inspire, that i would want to write too. I love music.

Q: Where can we get a copy of the album and how much?

Christian: The album is already out and about. It will be available for purchase at Flowerthief sightings (shows), and/or you can send me a message and we'll discuss how we can get 'round to it. The price is up to you. How much would someone pay for music these days? All I can say is, it's a good album and a lot of work's been put into it.

Q: Are you planning to get a band together for shows?

Christian: It's happening!
