Television:would have been a great step forward for humanity but the commercials ruin it for me I know - so how exactly is that different from myspace, right? I guess I'm just not much of a tv person usually. would rather be doing something active. Oh I'm not knocking the cool indie channels on cable. |

Books:Don't miss the new Fats Domino book "Blue Monday"try elmore leonard (the book is always better than the movie). mystery thrillers - can rank high with me if the writer is good. i like sara paretsky for her chicago flavor, t jefferson parker, robert crais, walter mosley, pete dexter, and so forth. not to mention the early classics - raymond chandler and ross macdonald. noir, such as the grifters by jim thompson. p k dick & sam delaney on the sci fi scene. some people don't read cormac mccarthy, i can't imagine why. nobody writes dialog like elmore leonard or cormac mccarthy, & mccarthy especially is about much more than just dialog and plot. oh, make sure you read 'secrets' by daniel ellsberg. for music books, anything by elijah wald (narcocorridos) or robert pruter (chicago soul). |
